Housing Vouchers | Placer County, CA Health and Human Services Housing Choice Voucher Program The Housing Choice Voucher Program ( HCV ) formerly known as the Section 8 Voucher Program, is a rental assistance program to help low and very low-income families, persons with disabilities and seniors so they can live in affordable, safe, and decent housing. This program covers all of Placer County with the exception of the City of Roseville.
The City of Roseville has its own Housing Authority . HUD -Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing Placer County Housing Authority supports local and federal efforts to end homelessness among Placer County veterans. We encourage landlords to participate in our Housing Choice Voucher Program to help achieve this goal of providing a home to veterans who have served our country.
HUD -Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing ( HUD-VASH ) combines the Housing Choice Voucher ( HCV ) rental assistance with case management and clinical services provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs ( VA ) for homeless veterans. The VA provides these services for participating veterans at VA medical centers ( VAMC’s ) and community based outreach clinics.
HUD established the Emergency Housing Voucher (EHV) program in 2021 to assist individuals and families in securing stable housing during the COVID-19 pandemic. Federal funding for the EHV program was expected to continue through 2030. In March 2025, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced the funding is ending five years sooner than expected as funding had been depleted faster than projected.
PCHA estimates that the funding will cover EHV housing assistance payments until approximately June 2026, though that is only an estimate and it may end earlier or later. Currently, PCHA does not have additional vouchers to assist households after the EHV program concludes. For more information and answers to commonly asked questions, PCHA has created an EHV FAQ .

In order to qualify for housing assistance benefits, your total household income must not exceed the gross income limit for your family size and you meet other program requirements established by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

When your name is reached on the waiting list, an application packet will be sent via first-class mail. Pre-applications will only be taken online during open application periods.

If you already applied with Placer County Housing Authority for Housing Choice Voucher rental assistance program, you may check your status online . You will not be able to receive information regarding your application status by calling or coming into the Placer County Housing Authority office.
