Research Priority Program 5354 - Application of Asset Health Monitoring to Buried Asset Management and Operations Identify available/emerging technologies for asset health monitoring of large diameter and/or transmission pipes. Develop effective techniques and procedures for applications of these asset health monitoring technologies to large diameter and/or transmission pipes and perform field verification.
Develop guidelines/models for correlating data to pipe material degradation, defects, etc., and on how and which structural health aspects can be monitored and correlated with operations. Identify and compile cases, if any, in which such technologies are successfully applied to water industry assets other than pipes. The FY2026 Innovative Water Infrastructure Workforce Development Grant (EPA-OW-OWM-26-03) closes October 5, 2026 with $10.8 million, up to 15 cooperative agreements, and a Project Area 1 ceiling of $7.8 million. One maximum award would consume 72 percent of the pool. Here is how the four project areas actually partition the money, why the grants.gov award floor field is wrong, and why September 14 is the date that matters more than October 5.
Read articleDE-FOA-0003627 closes September 8, 2026, with $150 million across four topic areas and roughly 10 expected awards. Three topics fund enhanced recovery and fracture diagnostics; one funds produced water treatment — the smallest pot at $24 million, and the one with the least crowded applicant field. Here is the full topic breakdown, the TRL 5-to-7 bar that disqualifies most lab-stage teams, the 20 percent cost share math, and why a companion $65.5 million NOFO closing September 22 changes how you should sequence two applications.
Read articleOn June 29, 2026, EPA announced it will waive the $25,000 WIFIA application fee and the credit processing fee — averaging roughly $156,000 per loan — for communities of 25,000 or fewer residents in fiscal years 2026 and 2027. Combined, that removes nearly $200,000 in upfront cost from the single most affordable federal water-infrastructure financing program, which carries roughly $11 billion in available capacity and can cover up to 80% of eligible project costs at Treasury-rate pricing. For small towns, rural utilities, and the nonprofits and districts that serve them, this is a rare instance of the federal government lowering the barrier to a program that has historically been out of reach for exactly the communities that need it most. Here is what changed, who qualifies, and how to move on a letter of interest before the window closes.
