Nassau Reading Council

Professional Development Program offered to members and all educators in the area Nassau Suffolk NYC. It is hoped that the knowledge gained will improve the delivery of instruction to all students. Educators are able to rceceive CTLE hours of Education that New York State Education Department requires of all educators.

Expenses: $1K

Books for Babies program - volunteers work with teenage mothers to teach them literacy skills that will help them and their children. Participants are given books that will help and encourage them to read to their babies and children. The young mothers are encouraged to continue their High School education.

Expenses: $500

Young Authors Program - encourages the students Kg- Grade 12 from all schools on Long Island and NYC to write memoirs. The students who participate all receive a certificate. Those whose writing for each grade selected as one of the better writings receive recognition at a ceremony celebrated with their family and school famiuly.

Opening Word Program - volunteers work with immigrant women to teach them English and reading skills. They are taught American History.
