We provided a standardized dietary recall as well as strength cardiovascular balance and flexibility tests to measure physical capabilities. Being provided with concrete numbers through these assessments participants could see how they compared to the average population. Interns used this information to create discussions that targeted potential areas of improvement in the participants' health. Through the 2021-22 school year we provided services to over 100 UC Davis undergraduates graduate students staff faculty and retirees.
RIVER Pediatric Clinic: Student-run clinic under RIVER which was initiated as a committee project in response to seeing the crucial need to address Adverse Childhood Experiences ACEs. ACEs are traumatic stressful events that occur before the age of 18 that could lead to long-term effects that manifest into adulthood and are linked to chronic physical and mental health conditions. RPC has hosted pop-up clinics at a multitude of locations in Sacramento and rural California containing vision screenings mental health screenings community resources and COVID testing. Currently RPC is partnered with Mills Middle School to provide workshops about mental health such as how to cope with emotions and how to manage stress. RPC anticipates to initiate full medical services under a mobile healthcare model in the near future providing services to schools shelters and refugee camps in Northern California.
