About This Grant

Broadening Participation in America's Technology Workforce (BATW) is sponsored by Directorate for STEM Education (NSF). Funds capacity-building for underrepresented groups in tech fields, including AI curriculum design for native project integration at universities. This program should be reviewed carefully against your organization's mission, staffing capacity, timeline, and compliance readiness before you commit resources to a full application. Strong submissions usually translate sponsor priorities into concrete objectives, clear implementation milestones, and measurable public benefit.

For planning purposes, treat rolling deadlines or periodic funding windows as your working submission target unless the sponsor publishes an updated notice. A competitive project plan should include a documented need statement, implementation approach, evaluation framework, risk controls, and a realistic budget narrative. Even when a grant allows broad program design, reviewers still expect credible evidence that the proposed work can be executed within the grant period and with appropriate accountability.

Current published award information indicates $1,000,000 - $5,000,000 Organizations should verify the final funding range, matching requirements, and allowability rules directly in the official opportunity materials before preparing a budget. Finance and program teams should align early so direct costs, indirect costs, staffing assumptions, procurement timelines, and reporting obligations all remain consistent throughout drafting and post-award administration.

Eligibility guidance for this opportunity is: Institutions of higher education, consortia If your organization has partnerships, subrecipients, or collaborators, define responsibilities and compliance ownership before submission. Reviewers often look for implementation credibility, so letters of commitment, prior performance evidence, and a clear governance model can materially strengthen the application narrative and reduce concerns about delivery risk.

A practical approach is to begin with a focused readiness review, then build a workback schedule from the sponsor deadline. Confirm required attachments, registration dependencies, and internal approval checkpoints early. This reduces last-minute issues and improves submission quality. For the most accurate requirements, always rely on the official notice and primary source links associated with Broadening Participation in America's Technology Workforce (BATW).

The program is intended to incubate new ideas and communities, support innovation in research and NSF’s own processes, and to promote integration across research and education domains. Support is provided to develop human and infrastructure capacity critical to the U. S.

science and engineering enterprise; to catalyze new cross-cutting programs; to expand NSF’s capability to gather and use evidence about the progress and impacts of its programs; for prestigious honorary award programs and professional internships for aspiring scientists and engineers; and for policy and programmatic analysis for the NSF Director, Deputy Director and Chief Operating Officer.

ods_key=pappg EPSCoR eligibility is based on two primary considerations: (1) a jurisdiction’s demonstrated commitment to develop its research bases and to improve the quality of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) research conducted at its universities and colleges, and (2) a jurisdiction’s most recent three-year history of research funds awarded by NSF relative to the Foundation’s total research budget for that same period.

Regarding the second consideration, a jurisdiction is eligible to participate in EPSCoR programs if its level of research support is equal to or less than 0. 75 percent of the total NSF research budget for that same period. Adjustments are made in the rare instances where a single large NSF-funded national or international facility skews the data.

Except where a program solicitation establishes more restrictive eligibility criteria, individuals and organizations in the following categories may submit proposals: Universities and colleges; Non-profit, non-academic organizations; for-profit organizations; State and local governments; and unaffiliated individuals.
