The name came from its dollar-for-dollar match model, which doubled the value of the state capital funds used for low-income weatherization.
The program grew by combining state funds with support from utilities, rental property owners, and other partners. In 2021, the program was renamed Weatherization Plus Health. Since 1991, state capital funds have been authorized for the program every two years.
In 2023, the Weatherization Plus Health Program was awarded $35 million through the Climate Commitment Act, twice the funding awarded in the previous biennium. This unprecedented amount of funding considerably increased the number of homes served by more than 500 homes than the previous biennium and has allowed the program to expand services.
In addition to weatherization, the program now supports to cover improvements that make homes more durable, healthier and safer while reducing the energy costs for families. The increased funding is now continuing into the 25-27 biennium, with the program receiving $30 million again through the Climate Commitment Act and state capital budget funding.
