About This Data
This database aggregates NIH funding data from the NIH RePORTER system. It includes award counts, total funding amounts, average award sizes, and success rates broken down by NIH institute/center and grant activity code (mechanism).
Activity codes indicate the type of research grant: R01 (Research Project Grant), R21 (Exploratory/Developmental), K01/K08/K23 (Career Development), U01 (Cooperative Agreement), and many others. Success rates show the percentage of applications that receive funding at each institute.
Use this data to benchmark your grant strategy, identify which NIH institutes fund specific mechanisms, and understand the competitive landscape before submitting your application.
