**Art Comes to Life at Buena Vista Elementary** This January, theInstitute of Contemporary Art San Diego brought the magic of modern creativity to Buena Vista Elementary through its Valise Project, an interactive art outreach program supported by a City of Carlsbad Community Arts Grant. Students didn’t just learn about art, they experienced it!
With museum-quality works right in their classroom, hands-on activities and guidance from professional artists, young creators explored contemporary art and shared their unique perspectives in an inspiring, collaborative environment. The Great Kindness Challenge Community Kickoff took place on Sunday, Jan. 25, organized by Kids for Peace — a local Carlsbad nonprofit and recipient of the City of Carlsbad Community Arts Grant.
The event began with a high‑energy rally and parade starting at Viasat and ended at Carlsbad Unified School District (CUSD) offices. There, Kids for Peace unveiled its second public art installation: a vibrant “Kindness Matters” display mounted on the side of the building, visible to everyone driving along El Camino Real. All schools within CUSD participated in this inspiring initiative.
Each of the 15 schools took on the challenge of designing and cutting wooden letters. The project exemplified teamwork, as each letter was uniquely crafted by a different school, celebrating the diverse talents and creativity present throughout the district. ### 2025-26 Community Arts Grant Recipients **Carlsbad High School Vocal Music Program Presents: _Night with the Stars_** Thursday, Feb.

Zora is overqualified for her new job at one of these labs, but she’s there because she loves bees - or what is left of them.
Her stressed supervisor, Gwen, has learned to keep her head and budget down so her research doesn’t get discontinued. Zora, however, doesn’t mind spending her own time and money to try to rehabilitate the bee population. When an unfortunate incident leads to a boost in the bees’ numbers, Zora and her coworker Pilar must decide just how far they’re willing to go to keep the population growing.
An unsettling and sharp-witted cautionary tale,_The Apiary_ warns that the key to protecting each other and the planet is right in front of us, if only we would listen. Please note that the preview shows are working rehearsals and may involve stops. We look forward to welcoming you back after our opening night on Jan.
