African American Legacy Fund Grants - Community Foundation for Southern Arizona The African American Legacy Fund (AALF), an initiative of the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona, has a vision of what Southern Arizona can be when we bring together people, money, and goodwill to make sure all our children, youth, and families have the opportunities and resources to prosper.
AALF grants are designed to provide unrestricted operating support to provide flexible working capital and maximize the impact of nonprofits’ missions. The African American Legacy Fund has created a new one-time, off-cycle Rapid Response Grant in 2026 to provide urgent funding for nonprofits with priority given to those not previously funded.
AALF is committed to investing in organizations and leaders doing critical work in our communities and recognizes the need to respond to urgent community needs, while honoring impact, integrity, and accountability. Applications for AALF Rapid Response grants will be open April 14 – May 15, 2026.
Rapid Response Grant Application Information Rapid Response Grant Applicant Criteria Rapid Response Grant Eligibility Requirements Applicant must be a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization in good standing or apply using a fiscal sponsor. If applying with a fiscal sponsor or as a program of a more prominent university or university foundation, the fiscal sponsor or university must be a 501(c)3 in good standing.
Applicant must be based in Southern Arizona (we welcome applicants from all counties south of the Gila River, including Cochise, Graham, Greenlee, Pima, Santa Cruz, Yuma, and some of Pinal County) The organization’s programming must directly benefit the Black and/or African American community living in Southern Arizona. Applicant must be current in all reporting to CFSA.
Rapid Response Grant Applicant Guidelines The minimum Rapid Response Grant request must be $5,000 and the maximum grant request is $10,000. Requests made for more than this amount will not be considered. Rapid Response Grants are for general operating support, allowing organizations the flexibility to sustain and expand their impact.
Rapid Response Grant periods are for one year in duration and are one-time, off-cycle grant that is nonrenewable. Priority for the 2026 Rapid Response Grant awards will be given to organizations that have not previously received funding from AALF.
Through this one-time, off-cycle Rapid Response Grant round, AALF is seeking to fund organizations who clearly demonstrate the following in their application: clarity of organizational mission with demonstrated results, depth of impact with sustainability of efforts, clear connection to the community served, alignment of the work with community needs and an authentic voice of leadership, urgency of need and a feasible use of the grant in FY27.
