Alabama Governor’s Emergency Relief Fund (GERF) – United Ways of Alabama Alabama Governor’s Emergency Relief Fund (GERF) The Alabama Governor’s Emergency Relief Fund (GERF) is a “fund of last resort” for the unmet needs of families and individuals working to recover from disasters in our state. There is a specific process for application through local Long Term Recovery Committees (LTRCs).
LTRCs are set up in counties/regions to locate recovery resources, assess and confirm needs, and grant funding for rebuild and recovery. LTRCs request funding from various sources, including Community Foundations and GERF. The GERF has provided funding for Hurricane Katrina 2005, April 2011 tornadoes, and various disaster recovery efforts in our state.
The Governor’s Office of Volunteer Services (GOVS) and Alabama Emergency Management Agency (AEMA) co-chair the GERF and the United Ways of Alabama is the fiscal agent. United Ways of Alabama is the fiscal agent for the GERF and works with a Steering Committee of statewide partners including government officials appointed by the Governor of Alabama.

California State Nonprofit Security Grant Program (CSNSGP) is a grant from the California Governor's Office of Emergency Services that funds target hardening and security enhancements for nonprofit organizations at high risk for violent attacks and hate crimes due to their ideology, beliefs, or mission. Awards of up to $200,000 per organization are available, with $76 million allocated in the latest funding round. Eligible applicants are 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations operating in California. Funded activities include physical security improvements and vulnerability assessments to protect against threats. FY 2026 Homeland Security Grant Program (HSGP) – Mississippi is a grant from the Mississippi Office of Homeland Security (MOHS) that funds local law enforcement, fire departments, and emergency operations agencies for homeland security preparedness. FEMA-provided funds can be used for equipment, training, exercises, and supplies to protect against terrorism and other threats. The FY26 application deadline is Friday, April 3, 2026, and applications are submitted via the MOHS JotForm portal. National priorities require allocating at least 10% toward border crisis response and 3% toward election security.
