Bilateral cooperation ANR – JST CREST 2026 for two research areas: "Symbiotic AI Interdisciplinary System" and "Prediction Mathematical Foundation" | ANR Bilateral cooperation ANR – JST CREST 2026 for two research areas: "Symbiotic AI Interdisciplinary System" and "Prediction Mathematical Foundation" The signing of the bilateral agreement between the ANR and the JST (Japanese science and technology agency) for the promotion of scientific and technological cooperation has led to the opening up of the emblematic Japanese CREST programme (Core Research for Evolutionary Science and Technology) to the participation of French teams in Japanese projects.
In this context, French teams are invited to participate in research projects in collaboration with one or more Japanese teams concerning one of the two following priority research areas: [Symbiotic AI Interdisciplinary System] Creation of Interdisciplinary System Foundation for a Symbiotic and Collaborative Society with Humans and AI [Prediction Mathematical Foundation] Creation of Mathematical Foundation for Prediction and Control The full descriptions of these areas are provided in the annex outlining the modalities for French applicants.
This cooperation, implemented within the CREST programme framework, which supports priority research objectives for Japan, aims to foster collaborative research whose results will lay the foundations for scientific and technological breakthroughs. Project proposals should be led by a Japanese Principal Investigator and a French Principal Investigator.
They will be evaluated via a peer-review procedure, successively by the ANR and the JST. ANR will provide French teams with a funding of a maximum €500k per project. The requested funding must be adapted must be adapted to the number of French partners and the ambition of the project, for a duration of 5 years.
French Japanese consortia must submit their scientific project proposals to the ANR before 02 June 2026 at 10:00 (CEST), and to the JST before 02 June 2026 at 12:00 (JST).
