Individual Grant Application Instructions Who We Fund and How We Help The Blanche Fischer Foundation (BFF) is a small family foundation with a big mission: to increase independence, accessibility, and opportunity for Oregonians living with permanent physical disabilities. We do this through targeted grants for disabled people and nonprofit organizations (501(c)(3)s) across Oregon.
As a responsive grantmaker, we focus on direct-impact funding—supporting those people and nonprofits who are actively working to remove barriers and build more inclusive, sustainable solutions for the disability community. Individual Grant Application Instructions Grants for Disabled People and Nonprofits We provide grants to individuals and 501 c-3 organizations.
Our grant program provides essential financial assistance to low-income Oregonians with permanent physical disabilities.
Funding supports independence, mobility, and quality of life through: Assistive technology and adaptive equipment – such as wheelchairs, hearing aids, prosthetics, and communication devices Independent living tools – including therapeutic aids, hospital beds, and personal care equipment Accessibility modifications – like home ramps, wheelchair lifts, and vehicle accessibility upgrades Supportive nonprofit programs – offering direct services like accessible transportation, vocational support, or inclusive recreation Grants are capped at $1,500 and may be awarded once every three years.
All payments are made directly to vendors—never to individuals. Awards given in April, July, September, and January. We prioritize funding that: ✔ Expands access to essential services and tools that improve the quality of life for individuals with disabilities.
✔ Promotes long-term independence by supporting projects that encourage self-sufficiency. ✔ Serves rural and underserved communities where accessibility resources are limited. ✔ Demonstrates strong community engagement.
When reviewing applications for grants for disabled people, we prioritize those who demonstrate: Significant financial hardship A clear, essential need for independence Active engagement in their own growth through education, work, health management, or volunteering Applicants must meet all of the following: Be a permanent Oregon resident Have a permanent physical disability, verified by a healthcare provider Demonstrate financial need with complete income and expense documentation Request an item or service that directly enhances independence or quality of life Submit a detailed funding request, including quotes or invoices Provide a support letter from a social service advocate Show engagement, such as participation in rehab, education, employment, or community support programs Individual Grant Application Instructions To keep our impact focused, we do not fund: Living expenses (rent, food, utilities) Routine or ongoing medical care (doctor visits, prescriptions, therapy) Reimbursements for items already purchased Items already covered by insurance or other funding sources Requests unrelated to a permanent physical disability Capital campaigns, endowments, or religious/political activities Out-of-state residents or undocumented requests for chronic health issues not under care Supporting Independence.
