We listen first to young people, families, and frontline organizations. We target underrecognized needs where smart, early investment can change the trajectory of young people’s lives. We practice trust-based, equity-driven philanthropy , offering multi-year support, capacity-building, and a learning community—not just grants.
The result is deeper impact, stronger organizations, and more just systems for children and youth across Chicagoland. Healing Youth Racial Trauma Through the Healing, Leading, Changing initiative, young people are not only healing from racial trauma — they’re gaining stronger identity, greater confidence, and a deeper sense of belonging in their schools and communities.
Across our cohort, youth are stepping into leadership roles, driving peer support, shaping programs, and influencing the systems that impact their lives. Early Childhood Development WellEQUIPD is a first-of-its-kind, multi-year community investment that strengthens Chicagoland’s early childhood workforce.

No. Current grantee partners will complete a combined final report and renewal request. The link to the combined form will be sent to you directly. Please confirm that the contact information in your grantee profile is up to date to ensure you receive the link to report/renewal form.
Does Bright Promises provide funding to individuals? No. If you are in need of immediate assistance, please contact one of our grantee partners in your area for more information about mutual aid and emergency funds. Does Bright Promises provide funding to schools?
Bright Promises does not accept proposals from individual schools. Proposals from external organizations that work in schools either during the school day or out-of-school time are eligible to apply. Does Bright Promises provide funding to churches or religious organizations?
Bright Promises does not accept proposals for programs that are oriented around a specific religion or religious teachings. Religious organizations may apply if the program for which funding is being sought is not religious in nature. Does Bright Promises partner with organizations outside of Chicagoland?
Bright Promises does not accept proposals for programming that occurs outside of the Metropolitan Chicago Area. National organizations can only apply if the funded program occurs within our area of geographic focus and there is a local office with dedicated staff. My organization does not have 501(c)3 designated nonprofit status.
Can I apply? Bright Promises does not accept proposals from organizations that do not have 501(c)3 IRS designated nonprofit status unless there is a fiscal agent. Does Bright Promises provide general operating support?
No. Bright Promises accepts proposals for programs serving children and youth that align with our current focus areas. Bright Promises views our grantee partners as strategic partners and thought leaders, so our goal is to provide support that is flexible and responsive.
