Community Grants Program | The Miami Foundation Our Community Grants Program The 2025-27 Community Grants application cycle has closed. The Miami Foundation seeks to build a Greater Miami where everyone can thrive through our signature Community Grants program. As a permanent resource for Greater Miami, Community Grants invests in an organization’s mission with two years of general operating support.
Community Grants will open applications in 2027. Meet the 2025 Grant Partners With the support of generous Miamians, The Miami Foundation is proud to invest in Miami’s nonprofits through flexible funding that supports their ability to invest in growth, innovation, and wholeness. Community Grants, our signature grant program, provides steady funding to nonprofits working to address a variety of issues across Greater Miami.
As of 2023, we award grants bi-annually, providing two years’ worth of general operating support. In our first grant cycle under this new award structure, we provided 95 grant partners with unrestricted mission-building support into 2025. Here’s a report on what grant partners accomplished in Year 1 as a result of that shift .
Community Grants is made possible through field-of-interest funds supported by generous Miamians, partnerships with a network of philanthropists, and a growing dedication to supporting community champions through trust–based philanthropy. We are especially grateful for our partnerships with The Frederick A. DeLuca Foundation, Miami-Dade County, and the State Attorney’s Office of Miami-Dade County.
We are grateful for the ability to invest in Miami’s pressing needs and greatest opportunities. DeLuca Foundation, Miami-Dade County, the State Attorney’s Office of Miami-Dade County and the Taft Foundation, we invested $7 million over two years across these seven funding priorities. Access to Health and Wellness: Improve health outcomes by connecting people to quality health resources and education, reducing health disparities, or tackling contributing social determinants of health.
Economic Stability: Improve residents’ ability to meet local affordability challenges by providing access to opportunities that promote self-sufficiency, entrepreneurship, financial independence, or personal stability. This category is made possible by the Sofia Isabel Soto Fund for Inclusion of People with Diverse Abilities, in loving memory of Sofia Isabel, the daughter of The Miami Foundation’s former President and CEO, Javier Alberto Soto. Inspiring Arts and Culture: Apply the power of arts and culture to strengthen community.
This category will catalyze work that champions the diversity of our community, expands access to arts and culture experiences for residents, or increases opportunities for artistic expression.
Safer Communities: Promote safety in local communities through crime prevention and deterrence, efforts to reduce substance abuse and addiction, initiatives that combat human trafficking, support for survivors of violence, and youth development programs that encourage safety practices and promote overall community safety. Sustainable Environment: Develop a healthier, more resilient community by promoting environmental education and action on the restoration of Biscayne Bay (One Water, One Bay), preservation of the Everglades, protecting our communities from the effects of extreme heat, amplifying opportunities for water preservation, or expanding awareness and action on the climate crisis and its local effects.

Thriving Youth and Families: Expand opportunities for families (from early childhood to elder-aged) to excel through high-quality education, personal development, and work to ensure their safety and stability. Who is Eligible to Apply? Eligible applicants are nonprofits with an active 501(c)(3) status as a public charity or projects with an established fiscal sponsor that has this status. Government entities and religious organizations that are considered nonprofit equivalents are also eligible.
The proposed work must directly serve Miami-Dade County residents. If you have a current grant through any Foundation program, you must be in compliance with that grant to apply. Our funding priorities are rooted in the values we aim to model together with our nonprofit partners.
They guide our application review and are highly encouraged to be considered while creating your proposal. Advance opportunities for marginalized individuals and communities: We prioritize support for organizations working directly with communities that face marginalization to tackle disparities around race, age, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, mixed-abilities, and other lines of difference.
Focus on progress: We support organizations whose work is guided by clear goals for the growth of individuals and communities. All partners will have a strong potential to create timely, impactful opportunities for individuals and communities to advance and thrive. Build solutions: We prioritize partners pursuing long-lasting change for individuals and communities.
Organizations should highlight underlying barrier(s) or challenge(s) they currently address so our residents can pursue their greatest potential. Collaborate with community: We prioritize organizations with leadership that is representative and inclusive of the communities they serve, especially those that intentionally gather community feedback to guide their work.
We believe in authentic community relationships and resident leadership. Sustainability: We support high-quality, viable work and prioritize investments that will strengthen organizations serving those most affected by marginalization and lack of access to opportunity. We exclusively welcome proposals that will use awarded funds to strengthen their capacity and expertise to serve Miami’s most underserved.

All grants are considered mission-building, general operating support to be used at the nonprofit’s discretion to invest in their respective mission, sustainable impact and growth. We encourage interested applicants to consider submitting a form to serve as a Community Advisor.
The Miami Foundation partnered with over 100 Community Advisors to review all eligible proposals to inform final grant selections to ensure rich perspectives are centered at every phase. Community Advisors ensure our Community Grants program remains grounded in our desire to invest in Miami’s most pressing issues by centering a community voice inour review process.
We welcome individuals with diverse personal and professional experiences related to each funding category to review full proposals and provide rich perspectives in our selection process. Grant reviews and ratings are informed by Community Advisors, ensuring multiple considerations are made in the final selection phase.

The Homeless Youth Program is a grant from the Illinois Department of Human Services that funds services for homeless and at-risk youth across Illinois.
