_ The Prudential Foundation has launched its fourth annual **Prudential Community Grants Program** to support local nonprofit organizations, small businesses, and individuals in the company’s hometown of Newark, New Jersey. The program empowers Newark residents to build more resilient, thriving communities by funding local changemakers and community organizations who have the vision and solutions to support their neighborhoods.
The Prudential Foundation works with the **Community Foundation of New Jersey** and representatives from each of the city’s five wards to distribute microgrants of up to $5,000 to projects and programs that support neighborhood beautification, increase resident access to opportunity, and enhance quality of life in Newark.

Since 2022, The Prudential Foundation has committed $2 million to support the Community Grants Program in providing the financial resources needed to deliver meaningful support and drive positive change across Newark. The program reflects Prudential’s commitment to the city for more than 150 years through ongoing support for local voices and solutions.
#### **2025 Impact: By the Numbers** The 2025 program cycle demonstrated the power of community-driven action: * **9,090 Newark residents** were directly impacted by grantee programs and projects in 2025, increasing the program’s reach by 175% since 2024. * **Application growth:** Since launching in 2023, program applications have increased by 108%.
* **85 recipients were awarded grants in 2025**, including 61 new awardees and 24 returning organizations, with $322,500 distributed across Newark’s wards. #### **2025 Grantee Highlight** The Community Grants Program supports local initiatives that strengthen opportunity and advance positive social and economic outcomes.
**Backyard Chickens for Sustainability**, an initiative spearheaded by Newark Science and Sustainability Inc., educated Newark residents on the benefits and techniques of raising chickens in urban settings to address food insecurity.
Through a series of workshops, educational materials, and hands-on activities over 24 weeks from June through November, participants learned how to care for chickens, reduce waste through composting, and enhance their food security and nutrition by having access to fresh eggs. The program promoted sustainability and self-sufficiency in urban environments while fostering community education and engagement with local food systems.
Backyard Chickens for Sustainability anticipated impacting 500 Newarkers and successfully reached 720 residents, all of whom were able to gain real-world, hands-on experience. By learning about raising chickens, residents reduced their reliance on industrial food systems, lowered their carbon footprint, and created a more resilient local food system.
