Community Wildfire Defense Grant Program Approximately $200 million in federal funding from the U.S. Forest Service is available through the 2025 Community Wildfire Defense Grant (CWDG). Designed to bolster wildfire risk management, this funding supports the creation or updating of Community Wildfire Protection Plans (CWPPs) or implementation of mitigation projects within CWPPs that are less than ten years old.
The CWDG program prioritizes low-income communities in areas that have a high or very high wildfire hazard potential, as well as those impacted by a severe disaster that increased wildfire risks within the previous 10 years. Local governments, tribal governments, and non-profit organizations including homeowner associations can apply for up to $250,000 to create or update a CWPP, with a 10 percent match requirement.
These entities can also apply for up to $10 million with a 25 percent match requirement to support the implementation of a mitigation project. The Nevada Division of Forestry CWDG Coordinator is available to provide technical support on proposal development and application submission.
