Student Activities – Dairy and Food Science | South Dakota State University Student Activities – Dairy and Food Science Students in the Department of Dairy and Food Science have numerous opportunities to enhance their education through gaining practical experience and networking with industry professionals. Some of the ways that our students vary their education is through clubs, judging teams and internships.
Two clubs for students in the department include the Dairy Club and the Food Science Club. Three judging teams for our students include Dairy Cattle Judging, Dairy Products Judging and Dairy Challenge. Take a look at what our students are doing now!
Dairy Club at SDSU is a student organization that helps students with an interest in dairy to gain professional skills and connections to the industry. Food Science Club at SDSU is a student organization for students with an interest in food to explore new foods. Learn About Food Science Club The Dairy Cattle Judging Team focuses on evaluating the conformation of dairy cattle.
The Dairy Products Judging Team focuses on evaluating the composition of dairy products. The Intercollegiate Dairy Challenge Team focuses on evaluating dairy farms. The Department of Dairy and Food Science awards over $160,000 in scholarships to our students each year.

The Robotics Grant Program is a grant from the Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE) that funds school-based robotics programs for elementary, middle, and high school students. Awarded through a competitive application process, the program provides up to $3,500 to eligible local education agencies (LEAs) in Alabama. Applicants must be public school systems submitting on behalf of schools with K–12 students. The grant supports the purchase of robotics equipment and program development aligned with AMSTI guidelines. Applications are submitted online through the AMSTI Robotics Grant portal. The Fiscal Year 2026 application deadline was September 30, 2025. Questions should be directed to robotics@amsti.org. The program is managed by the Alabama State Department of Education under State Superintendent Eric G. Mackey.
