Interns & Fellows – Women's Foundation of Minnesota Skip to accessibility controls Funding Pathways for Women of Color in Philanthropy Philanthropy, nonprofits, and communities benefit when Black, Indigenous, and women of color are represented in leadership. Recognizing the need for more women of color in philanthropy and nonprofit leadership and development, WFM launched its Fellowship and Internship Program in 2002.
The Dr. Reatha Clark King Fellowship and the Wenda Weekes Moore Internship Program are our innovative initiatives to build pathways for women of color leaders in philanthropy. Through the program to date, WFM has engaged 50 Black, Indigenous, and women of color in all aspects of its operations, including evaluation, fundraising, grantmaking, and administration.
The program also provides rigorous training and professional development opportunities. Interns and Fellows receive one-on-one mentoring and professional coaching; attend workshops on emotional intelligence, executive presence, and action planning; and attend seminars and local and national philanthropy conferences.
Wenda Weekes Moore Internship The Wenda Weekes Moore Internship is designed to provide a pathway into the philanthropic sector through training, network building, and professional development opportunities.
Work experience includes all functional areas of a statewide community foundation and is designed for an undergraduate college student, a graduate student, an emerging professional, or a professional transitioning in their career, interested in the philanthropic sector.
Dr. Reatha Clark King Fellowship The Dr. Reatha Clark King Fellowship, a two-year paid fellowship, plays a central role in the coordination and management of the Women’s Foundation’s Young Women’s Initiative MN (YWI MN).
Named for Dr. Reatha Clark King in 2007, the fellow works both independently and collaboratively with Foundation staff and other key partners to plan, manage, and implement activities in program development, research and evaluation, meeting design and coordination, grant and contract management, grant and report writing, and publications and materials development.
Dr. Reatha Clark King and Wenda Weekes Moore As a result of this program, a majority of our Interns and Fellows have gone on to leadership careers in the nonprofit (64%), philanthropic (9%), and corporate (27%) sec tors in the United States and abroad. Seven program participants have also been hired and promoted as WFM staff.
Wenda Weekes Moore Intern Dr. Reatha Clark King Fellow | YWI Program Manager Read bio : Janett Jimenez Wenda Weekes Moore Intern Karina Kpahn (she/her) joined the foundation as the Wenda Weekes Moore Intern as a way to learn more about philanthropy as a whole and to be a part of the impact that the foundation has on women and gender-expansive people in Minnesota.
She is in her final year at Winona State University studying Public Health with an emphasis in Community Health and minoring in Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies as well as Child Advocacy Studies. Karina’s commitment to social change is evident throughout her work.
As president of her campus’ reproductive justice club, she has spearheaded significant public health initiatives including the creation of Winona State’s free Plan B distribution program. She has also built coalitions with student groups, alumni, and community members to advocate for increased funding for the university’s on-campus advocacy center to better support survivors.
Her dedication to reproductive justice extends beyond campus through her internships with Planned Parenthood Generation Action and Advocates for Youth. While balancing these responsibilities keeps her plate full, Karina’s passion for bettering the lives of those around her—particularly women and gender-expansive people—is what motivates her to stay involved and continue fighting for meaningful change.
Dr. Reatha Clark King Fellow | YWI Program Manager Janett Jimenez joined the WFM as the Wenda Weekes Moore intern in June 2023, and became the Dr. Reatha Clark King Fellow in January 2024. Southside Minneapolis is home for Janett, who graduates from the College of Saint Benedict this fall with a double major in sociology and Spanish and a minor in Latino/a American Studies.
She is passionate about social justice and social change and would like to contribute to positive changes for women and gender-expansive people in her community and other Minnesota communities.
