ELIAS Second Open Call - Cascade Funding Hub Funding for SMEs, start-ups and NGOs to develop AI-based applications, methods, software/tools or benchmarks addressing sustainability challenges through machine learning. TYPE OF PROJECTS TO BE FUNDED : Projects developing novel AI-based applications in the categories of methodology, software/tools, or benchmarks, relevant to one or more ELIAS use cases and addressing AI for Sustainability.
Projects must be based on machine learning and reach at least TRL 5, showing validation in an industrially relevant environment.
SECTORS / DOMAIN : Artificial Intelligence, sustainability, and high-impact societal and economic challenges, including areas such as building optimisation, virtual infrastructure monitoring, responsible advertising, migrant information, vegetation forecasting, materials discovery, and personalised co-piloting systems. INDIVIDUAL OR CONSORTIUM : Individual applicants.

SPECIFIC TOPICS OR CHALLENGES : Proposals must address sustainable AI and engage with the ELIAS' network in any of the "Methodology", "Software/Tools" or "Benchmarks" categories. The projects have to be relevant (but not limited to) to one out of the 7 proposed use cases. PROJECTS DURATION : 6-month program.
BUDGET, FUNDING RATES AND PAYMENT CONDITIONS : Funding rate: Lump sum of up to €60,000. Budget conditions / limitations: The call will select 4 SMEs/start-ups, and contract registration costs required under Italian law will be deducted from the awarded grant. Payments: There isn't pre-financing or installments during the project, only a payment that will be released after validation of the Final Report.
