Empire State Arts Scholarship Program | Office of Cultural Education, New York State Education Department NYS Summer School of the Arts Office of Cultural Education Empire State Arts Scholarship Program Be a full-time permanent resident of New York State (NYS); Receive education in New York State; Currently be in 6th-12th grade; Demonstrate economic need.
NYSED identifies a student as having economic need if they or their family participates in economic assistance programs such as: Free or Reduced-Price Lunch Program; Social Security Insurance (SSI); Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP); Refugee assistance (cash or medical assistance); Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC); Safety Net Assistance (SNA); Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA); or Family Assistance: Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF).
Educational programs, classes, camps, and/or clinics in one or more of the following arts disciplines: dance, music, visual art, media art, and theatre. Provided in group instructional setting (private lessons are not eligible). Run by reputable organizations (schools, art centers, community/regional arts organizations, museums, etc.).
NYSED (New York State Education Department) retains the right to determine the eligibility of a program or portion of a program's fee. Before completing the application, please read the FAQ for further information, as there are changes to the scholarship eligibility beginning Summer 2026.
