EPICUR Seed Funding Scheme 2025 – Call for applications – EPICUR Alliance The core ambition of the EPICUR alliance is to transform education, research and transfer practices and opportunities across its member universities in order to develop original cutting-edge solutions and train new generations of European change makers able to shape a European society in transition and help overcome the daunting challenges.
In the pursuit of deeper research collaboration and future joint teaching between EPICUR members, the EPICUR Seed Funding Scheme has been devised as an instrument to stimulate synergies between teaching and research by offering a financial support mechanism to support the building of promising research collaboration projects between EPICUR partner universities.
The set-up of a joint scheme is seen by the alliance partners as a strategic investment. It initiates a collaborative coordinated effort to stimulate research partnerships and ensure a more efficient allocation of resources than if each university were to independently create incentives for collaboration within EPICUR. The Seed Funding call for proposals 2025 is launched by the nine partners of the EPICUR Alliance.
The EPICUR Seed Funding Scheme invites researchers affiliated to one of the EPICUR partner institutions to submit proposals for one-year joint research project grants with collegues from EPICUR unversities. The Seed Funding aims to facilitate the development of ideas for joint research cooperation and stimulate synergies between teaching and research.
The Seed Funding offers a financial support mechanism for the building of promising research collaboration projects between EPICUR partner universities. Proposals can focus on research in any scientific area. However, projects addressing EPICUR priority areas are strongly encouraged.
Funding and maximum grant amount Projects can request and be awarded up to a maximum of 150. 000 EUROS. Applicants can only be awarded funding from their own affiliated university.

DARPA and NSF launched a joint program on June 1 to fund university work on AI interpretability, control, and adversarial robustness. Awards run $750K to $3M+ per project, the forum launches this summer, and the universities listed in the AI Forge repository will sit closest to the money. The Request for Information closes June 22.
Read articleOn June 1, 2026, DARPA and the National Science Foundation announced AI Forge — a jointly governed forum that will fund, guide, and manage university-led research on AI interpretability, AI control, and adversarial robustness. The RFI on sam.gov closes June 22. The forum itself will be administered by a new nonprofit launching in summer 2026. The structure is what matters: this is not a one-off solicitation, it is a multi-year venue for university-government-industry research that operates outside the normal merit-review timelines of either agency. What university research teams should be doing in the seventeen-day window between the announcement and the RFI deadline — and what the forum model means for federal AI funding through FY 2028.
Read articleThe May 29 OMB rewrite of 2 CFR Part 200 extends what has been a NASA-specific restriction since 2011 to every federal grant-making agency. Proposed §200.220 prohibits use of federal funds for collaboration with entities in or controlled by a 'covered foreign country' — currently the People's Republic of China, Russia, Iran, North Korea, Cuba, and Venezuela. Proposed §200.202(e) requires senior political appointee written approval before any federal R&D award flows to a foreign entity. Together they reshape university international research operations more comprehensively than any policy change since the 2018 China Initiative. Comment deadline July 13.
