Family Support Services | Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities Experiencing Emotional Distress?... Call or Text 988 Free and confidential services and help, available 24/7. Family Support Services is a non-entitlement program that brokers disability-specific services based on the unique needs of individuals and their families.
We provide our services with the belief that families belong together and individuals are best served in a community setting. Our ultimate goal is to maintain a cohesive family unit while helping individuals live at home in the community. These supports meet everyday needs that are often critical in avoiding family crises.
Family Support Services are tailored to meet your family’s needs. Family Support Coordinators work with families to develop Individualized Family Support Service Plans. Some of the services might include: Information and referral.
Assistance in identifying needs. Advocacy to obtain needed services or benefits.
Assistance locating and acquiring services such as: Social/Recreational Activities Special medical equipment, diets, clothing, and personal care items Other services and supports unique to each family's needs Individuals diagnosed with an approved intellectual or developmental disability who live in Georgia at home with their families and do not receive a NOW/COMP Waiver, are eligible for Family Support Services.
Eligible diagnoses include, but are not limited to: Autism Spectrum Disorders Family Support Services applications are accepted at the local community-based providers. Supporting documentation includes documents that indicate the individual has been diagnosed with a developmental disability, including: DD Intake and Evaluation Assessment through a DBHDD Regional Office Medical Verification of ID/DD by a Physician Social Security Disability For help accessing intellectual and developmental disability services in your area, please contact your regional field office .

The SCI Youth Grant Pitch Contest is a competitive program from Social Capital Inc. that funds youth-led community improvement projects in Greater Boston. Improving Veteran Mental Health Grant Program is a grant from The Cigna Group Foundation that funds nonprofits providing housing stability and wraparound support services to improve the mental health of military veterans. The Foundation committed $9 million over three years addressing housing instability and its mental health impacts, as an estimated 40,000 veterans go without shelter nightly and 1.5 million are at risk of homelessness. Funded programs include mortgage and rental assistance, employment re-entry training, and housing development for veterans. Eligible nonprofits must leverage evidence-informed programs and align with at least one goal: increasing permanent housing, improving housing affordability, or enhancing wraparound services for veterans transitioning from shelters.
