Feldman Medical & Health Scholarship $10,000 | Tidewater Jewish Foundation Feldman Family Medical & Health Professions Student Scholarship Up to $10,000/year for Virginia Jewish students who have been accepted into a Virginia institution for a degree in the medical or health field.

Dr. Feldman served the Hampton Roads community as a pediatrician for 33 years and served on the admissions committee at Eastern Virginia Medical School, as well as on various committees at the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters. It is important to him and Mary to unite their passion for the Jewish community and the medical professions by incentivizing Jewish students to enter the healthcare fields.
They established this Fund as a legacy to honor their caring and compassionate concern for others, their belief in the importance of a good education, their desire to see Jewish representation in the healthcare fields, their commitment to nurturing the thirst for knowledge, and their dedication to providing a foundation on which others might build a career in healthcare.
Jewish students, or those who identify as Jewish, pursuing careers in: Nursing (LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner) Ancillary Medical Professionals Due to the generosity of Dr. William and Mrs. Mary Feldman, we are pleased to provide this annual scholarship to Jewish students, or those who identify as Jewish, living in the Southeastern United States, with preference given to those from the Hampton Roads area, who have been accepted into an Appropriate Health Care Degree Program or college graduates entering or already enrolled in a post-graduate degree-granting institution within the United States as a full-time, degree-seeking student.
The institution must participate in the Federal Student Aid Program (Title IV). Annual requests are confidentially reviewed by our scholarship committee and approved by the Tidewater Jewish Foundation’s Board of Trustees.
The annual application window for this scholarship is: May 1 – July 1 Scholarship applicants must meet the following criteria: Must be Jewish, or identify as Jewish, and be a current resident of the Southeastern United States, with preference for residents of Hampton Roads (Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Virginia Beach, Suffolk, Isle of Wight County, Hampton, Newport News, and the Peninsula).
Must be accepted into an Appropriate Healthcare Degree Program or be a college graduate entering or already enrolled in a post-graduate degree-granting institution within the United States as a full-time, degree-seeking student. The institution must participate in the Federal Student Aid Program (Title IV). Preference will be given to enrollees at Virginia institutions.
Applicant must provide a letter of acceptance from the degree-granting institution they plan to attend or proof of current enrollment. Applicant must demonstrate academic ability, concern for school and community through extracurricular activities and volunteer service, and note any unusual circumstances that make the applicant more worthy of consideration.
Applicant must show substantiated financial need as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Applicant may reapply if not awarded the scholarship in a previous year, or if they have previously received the award and are pursuing a next-level degree/certification in the same field.
Any relatives of the Feldman family, members of the Scholarship Committee, or individuals related to employees of the Tidewater Jewish Foundation are ineligible. To determine need, all students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at studentaid. gov so that the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) may be determined.
