Grants Program — Southern Indiana Health Foundation After nearly 50 years of supporting the community health needs of Southern Indiana, Floyd Memorial Foundation has a new name, and a renewed focus. We are now the Southern Indiana Health Foundation . Established in 1978, the Floyd Memorial Foundation began raising funds to support the Floyd County-owned hospital.
While our role has varied over time, we remain committed to supporting the important work done by the hospital, and exploring new ways to strengthen health outcomes across the region. In 2023, we fully disaffiliated from the health system, opening the door for us to direct the majority of our funding toward community-based initiatives.
Over the past year, our board and staff have reviewed community needs assessments, met with local leaders, and heard from those on the front lines with the goal of understanding the most substantial health needs in our community. One theme rose above all others: mental health . From overwhelming stress and anxiety to substance abuse, trauma, and thoughts of self-harm, the challenges are urgent and growing.
The need for compassionate, preventative, and accessible support is urgent. To meet this need, we’ve set a clear priority: To invest in programs and partnerships that strengthen mental health across Floyd, Clark, and surrounding counties. Our new mission is to empower a healthy community through education, prevention, and strategic partnerships.
And now, we’re launching our new grant program this fall, with applications opening September 1. This grant program is focused on supporting local efforts that address key mental health challenges in our region.
We’re especially interested in programs and initiatives that focus on: Substance abuse prevention and treatment Trauma recovery (including violence-related, social, and cultural trauma) We’re also putting a strong emphasis on education and training, including mental health first aid, “Train the Trainer” programs, school-based initiatives, and events that help build mental health awareness across the community.
You must be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit Your project must have a health-related focus You must serve residents in Southern Indiana (Floyd, Clark, Washington, Crawford, Scott, or Harrison counties) We won’t be able to fund: Organizations that are political, religious, or outside the health space Projects that don’t serve our target counties Requests from individuals Funds may be used for programming costs, salaries/staffing, or capital expenses that directly support your project.
There is no set cap on grant requests. However, funding is limited and the process is competitive. We encourage applicants to request funding that is well-matched to their project’s needs—sufficient to achieve impact while demonstrating thoughtful stewardship of resources.
