The money will go toward creating Headwind Scholars, a scholarship program for former foster youth providing financial aid, academic resources and support services. “With this additional funding, and the support of others who are motivated to come alongside INOFB’s generosity, we are confident in the long-term impact we can make to partner, encourage, mentor, and guide these students throughout their academic careers,” said Michael J.

Beals, president of Vanguard University. Howard Booker, executive director of INOBF, said the company’s nonprofit arm is dedicated to supporting children who have faced abuse and neglect. “This gift represents our vision of empowering students in a Christian college environment, enhancing resources for current and future foster care system graduates to thrive academically and beyond,” Booker said.

Mark Orphan is the newly appointed director of Headwind Scholars. Orphan, a Vanguard graduate and a pastor, is also the co-founder of the nonprofit Finally Home, which also works with foster youth and adoption advocacy. Vanguard is a private, Christian university founded in 1920.

It has 2,200 enrolled students and nearly 100 full-time faculty teaching 30 undergraduate programs and six graduate degree programs. The Parisian fashion house Eres opened its first California boutique May 2 at South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa. It’s also the first location for the 56-year-old luxury brand on the West Coast.

m. at The District Tustin Legacy. The diaper drive collects diapers, wipes and baby food for families with young children who are homeless or at-risk of being homeless.

Part of the event includes themed diaper structures, built by local teams including Lennar Homes, New Home Co, OCSD, Brookfield, BIASC’s Greater Sales and Marketing Council/Woodside Homes/WHA and Wienerschnitzel. The event will also feature free food, games and activities and educational resources for those who attend.

All the donated diapers, wipes, and baby food go to families living in shelters and affordable housing built by HomeAid OCLA and its partners. Since the event launched in 2008, the nonprofit has collected 16 million essential items. The goal this year is to collect 1 million essential items at the drive-through drop-off event.

This year’s diaper drive will be in the parking lot closest to Prego Restaurant at 2409 Park Ave. Boys & Girls clubs open career hub The Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Orange Coast recently opened its first college and workforce hub at Cypress College. The nonprofit’s North OC Satellite Office is the first big partnership for BGC of Central OC and Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Anaheim-Cypress since the two merged.

The workforce office will serve more than 750 students annually, acting as a hub where underserved teens and young adults can get access to mentorship, resources and other career-minded programs. Jessica Artinger has been promoted to director of the Orange Coast College Planetarium, a role she’s held in a temporary capacity since summer 2023.

She has vast experience in the space industry, including her role as the fabrication lead for the UCLA ELFIN CubeSat Mission, according to OCC. Artinger earned her bachelor’s degree in astrophysics with a minor in geophysics and planetary physics at UCLA. Jack Sun is the new director of the cardiovascular surgery program at Hoag’s Jeffrey M.

Carlton Heart & Vascular Institute. Sun, who specializes in minimally invasive surgery, will lead the development of programs for patients with “the most advanced and challenging forms of heart failure. Previously, he was chief of cardiac surgery and health sciences associate clinical professor of Surgery at the UC Irvine.

Robert Kolek recently was appointed chief financial officer at Insight Investments LLC in Costa Mesa. He will oversee the firm’s financial planning and analysis, accounting, corporate reporting, treasury and taxes. Previously, he was senior vice president and controller at Mitsubishi HC Capital America.

Doctors Asad Shah and Timothy Lee have joined MemorialCare Heart & Vascular Institute at Saddleback Medical Center. Shah, a Duke University alum, is the medical director of Cardiothoracic Surgery for MHVI. Lee, who attended Harvard College and the University of Michigan Medical School, specializes in coronary artery bypass grafting, arrythmia surgery, and heart valve replacements.

Tilly’s raised $130,000 at its 18th annual charity golf tournament held April 28 and benefiting Tilly’s Life Center. The money raised will go toward helping teens “cultivate a healthy identity, positive mindset, manage emotions, achieve goals, and navigate life’s challenges with confidence and resilience.

” Make-A-Wish Orange County and the Inland Empire raised $300,000 at 10th annual It’s In The Bag Spring Fête hosted with its Women’s Circle of Wishes on Sunday, April 27. Nearly 250 guests 240 guests attended, bidding on luxury handbags and auction items, with proceeds benefiting the program that provides wishes to children fighting critical illness.
