” Can multiple organizations submit a joint application? Multiple organizations can submit a joint application, however one organization must identify as the lead, completing the Eligibility Quiz and letter of Interest. Once the lead organization is invited to complete the application, the grant management system allows applicants the ability to invite collaborators to assist with an application.

What if I have not yet received my 501(c)3 status?
501(c)3 status is required to apply for funding support from the Foundation. My request does not fall under your priorities or meet your geographic limitations, how do I apply for a grant? We do not accept applications that do not meet our geographic and funding priorities.
Geographic & Funding Priorities If I do not pass the Eligibility Quiz, how do I apply for a grant? The Eligibility Quiz is a tool that helps you, and us, determine whether you meet our baseline requirements to apply for a grant. If you do not pass the quiz, it is generally likely the Foundation would not have interest in considering an application for your project.
If you did not pass the Eligibility Quiz but believe your project clearly meets the requirements, please contact us with your concern. What are some of the factors you consider when reviewing an application? We consider a variety of factors when reviewing an application.
Project activity alignment with Foundation key priorities and geographic limitations The organization’s current investment and activities in the Beloit community Demonstration of significant community need for the project activities A well thought out workplan Quality outcome measures that demonstrate positive impact in addressing the needs Identification of meaningful community partnerships (both existing and those that may need to be developed) associated with project activities Fiscal need (based upon an understanding of the organization’s current operating budget as well as a detailed project budget that outlines all revenue and expenses for all proposed project activities) The sustainability plan for ensuring activities continue beyond the grant period.
What size awards do you fund? The Foundation does not have specific limits on funding requests. We consider requests of $100,000 or less (Impact grant) as well as those over $100,000 (Operating and Capital grants).
Our average grant award in 2024 was $100,000, however the largest number of grants funded were under $30,000. We strongly encourage those considering a request over $100,000 to contact us to discuss the potential project and the Foundations level of interest prior to investing significant time in the application process. Can I apply for a grant if my organization has previously received one from the Foundation?
You can. However it is important to note, the Foundation does not have interest in considering multiple applications for ongoing operating support of organizations and/or projects. Two of our grantmaking principles, see below, indicate we seek to invest in organizations and projects that demonstrate investments or contributions from multiple funding sources and that have reasonable plans to support sustainability.
We are committed to these principles, however also recognize local organizations may address a variety of community needs that may align with Foundation priorities over time. How much time will applicants have to spend on submitting a proposal? The amount of time required to complete a proposal varies depending on the type of grant you are applying for.
Once you have passed the Eligibility Quiz, you will have the ability to review Letter of Interest (LOI) or application questions. All grant LOI’s and applications require both organization and project-specific information. In general, application time can take 1-4 hours depending on whether you have the requested information readily available.
How long will it take from when I submit my application to determine whether my project is funded? Application review for an Impact grant can take approximately 8 weeks, though it may take longer if clarification is required during the review process. Operating and Capital grants require the submission of a Letter of Interest (LOI) as the first step in the process.
LOI’s may be submitted at any time and are generally reviewed within 8 weeks. You will be notified via email whether you will be invited to submit a full application. You will also be notified of the application deadline.
Organizations will generally be notified about award decisions 8-12 weeks after the application deadline. All applications must be submitted through the Foundation’s electronic grant management system. Due to the high volume of messages we receive, responses may be delayed and are generated only for those inquiries we believe best align/potentially align with our interests and requirements.
You will need to create a user account in our online grant management system to complete the Eligibility Quiz that determines whether your project or organization meets Foundation eligibility guidelines.
Creating a user account requires you to enter the following information: A user name that is an email address Organizational information, including the EIN/Tax ID number (required) Contact information for the organization’s Chief Executive Officer/Executive Director Application Process Access You must pass the Eligibility Quiz for the applicable grant process (Impact grant, Operating grant or Capital grant) in order to access the specific application process.
If you believe you were not allowed to move forward from the Eligibility Quiz in error, please contact Foundation staff and note your inquiry relates to an Eligibility Quiz concern. Once you have passed the quiz, you will have access within the grant management system to the Apply page, which allows you to access the grant application process(es) available to you.
