Let me get this straight, 'Cause I'm getting a little old so, I get a little forgetful, though. I came to Camillus House like 40 years ago as a regular client, and I worked my way, now I'm the Emergency Housing Manager.
Our Workforce Development Initiative is really about providing the tools our clients need to be able to successfully transition back into the workforce, to be able to get off their feet, to be able to reenter society. Pretty much the majority of the people that come to the facility, they usually cross my desk at one time. It's easy to put myself in their shoes because I've actually been in their shoes.
I tell them my story that, you know, those same intake forms that I do on the clients? I say I filled those same forms out 40 years ago. Then they get excited and want to know, "What do I need to do to get what you got?"
Through the TD Ready Commitment, the dollars that we grant achieve impacts through lives touched, lives changed and lives enhanced. And Camillus House really, just, it's a home run on all fronts. They've been doing this work for more than 60 years and they're still in it.
And still achieving great results, and still innovating, and still looking to do more. When TD Bank came back with this new grant, we were just so incredibly appreciative. Because this is built on what they've already done.
And today we're housing these folks and preparing them with life skills classes and getting them ready to be able to live fully independent. It's great to see some folks journey who has started here, who came here as a client and eventually progressed through the process, not only of the personal recovery, but in this case also the professional recovery. When I came to Camillus House, I was pretty much broken.
Today I— Today, I know who I am. And I try to be the best person I can. Once you find out who you are, there's nothing that can stop you from accomplishing whatever you need to accomplish.
I loved growing up in Chinatown. I was born and raised here. It's a very close-knit community and really gave me the character that I carry with me today.
is a neighborhood of immigrants who had many different challenges, including financial success. But there's also housing challenges, prices and urban development that's built in and around Chinatown, displacing residents.
TD Bank is really helping us, PCDC, carry out our mission to protect, preserve and promote Chinatown as a multi-ethnic, residential immigrant from Hong Kong, Chinatown-- to me, to other Asian Americans-- it means opportunity, it means culture. When I first came to the United States, these nonprofit groups in Chinatown, they helped me to settle down, letting me know what I needed.
PCDC is a great organization, and they've been doing this kind of advocacy to help out the low income groups and the new immigrants. We want to support Chinatown and Philadelphia Chinatown Development Corporation because we understand how important they are to the fabric of Philadelphia. It's not just enough to put someone It's access to social services, it's access to health care, it's access to economic opportunities.
Organizations like PCDC are doing that. to bring this all to life. By working together with TD Bank, we've had a significant impact on our Chinatown community.
Providing physical, affordable housing for people to live in. Providing financial literacy so that families can be self-sustaining. We work with PCDC and provide financial literacy developing the next generation of leaders to bring Chinatown that continues with the culture and the historical legend.
Because they are the future. Chinatown has been here 152 years. is that it's here for another 152 years.
