One of the best places to do that is on a playground. But for some families, finding a playground that works for everyone, especially kids with disabilities, hasn't always been easy.
That's changing across Tennessee thanks to new inclusive playgrounds being built in communities all over the state. The Tennessee Department of Disability and Aging recently awarded grant money to help seven communities create playgrounds where every child can play, no matter their ability. These new playgrounds feature smooth surfaces for wheelchairs, wide ramps, and specialized swings.
These updates help kids of all abilities play side-by-side with their friends and family. Playgrounds are more than just for fun; they help children build strength, confidence, and friendships. And when playgrounds are designed for everyone, no one gets left out.
Families without disabilities also benefit because these spaces are safe, creative, and welcoming for all. When kids play together, they learn kindness, patience, and understanding. Want to find an inclusive playground near you?
