Housing Repair Assistance Program | City of Lexington, Kentucky LexCall 311 Lex TV Public notices Traffic updates Search Housing Advocacy and Community Development Housing Repair Assistance Program Housing Advocacy and Community Development Housing Repair Assistance Program Housing Repair Assistance Program helps homeowners fix problems listed in a Notice of Violations from Code Enforcement.
To qualify, you must live in the home and meet income and family size requirements. The program gives money and help to hire a contractor. This is at no cost to you.
This helps to make sure your home meets the rules in the property maintenance code and the LFUCG Code of Ordinances. You can apply for the Housing Repair Assistance Program if you meet these requirements: You got a “Notice of Violations” for housing issues from Code Enforcement. You own and live in the home.
Your household income, based on your family size, is less than 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI), which is set by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). If the home has more than one owner, it may still qualify as long as at least one of the owners lives there. Only the income of the owner who lives in the home will be used to decide if the home qualifies.
The income of owners who do not live there will not count.
Applications will be denied for those homeowners: whose incomes exceed the amount on the income/family size chart who have received $7,500 in Code Enforcement Housing assistance within the past 5 years for whom the limits of the program are unable to resolve all the code violations If the homeowner qualifies for the Housing Repair Assistance Program, the Code Enforcement Officer in charge (called the HRAP Coordinator) will contact the homeowner to set up an inspection.
The coordinator and some contractors will come to check the problems and determine the cost of the repairs. Once a contractor is chosen and all the paperwork is signed, the contractor will be allowed to start the work. They will have a set number of days to finish the repairs, based on the deadline given by the HRAP Coordinator.
Homeowners who are approved for the program will not get any fines or penalties from the time they turn in their application until the repairs are finished. Interested homeowners should contact the Division of Community & Resident Services to schedule an appointment. The homeowner will meet with Community & Resident Services to complete the application and submit all the required documentation.
