September 16, 2025 by Hayley Milloy Earlier this month, at the 2025 Independent News Sustainability Summit, Barr Foundation’s Director of Communications, Stefan Lanfer, shared the news during an after-hours roundtable discussion.
This generous support will fund post-Audit assessment tools, resources, and coaching for participating news organizations in the New England region, which includes outlets in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
Participants will complete a self-service Audit at both the beginning and end of the year-long program, allowing LION to track each organization’s progress and create a comprehensive, shared dashboard that will serve as a model for regional benchmarking. The Barr Foundation’s mission is to invest in human, natural, and creative potential, serving as thoughtful stewards and catalysts.
