Local Parks Grants — Texas Parks & Wildlife Department 2025-2030 - Texas Outdoor Recreation Plan SPRING 2026 - TPWD Local Park One-on-One Consultations Outreach Opportunity! Are you ready to enhance public recreation areas in your community? Since 1965, the Local Park grant program has helped Texas local governments acquire, renovate, and develop vibrant park spaces.
Our Local Park team will travel the state this Spring, offering one-on-one consultations with local partners to discuss your upcoming local park projects and help you prepare a competitive grant application. The Local Park Grant Program consists of 5 individual programs that assist local units of government with the acquisition and/or development of public recreation areas and facilities throughout the State of Texas.
The Program provides 50% matching grants on a reimbursement basis to eligible applicants. All grant assisted sites must be dedicated as parkland in perpetuity, properly maintained and open to the public. Eligible applicants include political subdivisions of the State of Texas legally responsible for providing public recreation services to their citizens.
This includes cities, counties, river authorities, municipal utility districts, and other special districts. The Program provides 50% matching grants on a reimbursement basis to eligible applicants. Once funded, all grant assisted sites must be dedicated as parkland in perpetuity, properly maintained and open to the public. Local Parks Grants are funded each year following an annual August 1st application deadline.
