Community Projects | NFAR Bringing the community together to create a better life for autistic individuals NFAR partners with organizations to achieve a shared goal of improving the lives of autistic individuals and their families so they can thrive! For the past 20 years, NFAR has supported initiatives each year that create or expand opportunities and bring new solutions to our community.
Funding for these programs is made possible by the annual Race for Autism. Community Project Grant Programs span from early treatment programs, friend clubs, social skills classrooms, peer mentor groups, theater and improv. programs, sports camps, family camps, music therapy, martial arts, social skills training, driving instruction, vocational training, parent resources and education, peer mentor programs, and many more.
Application Period Now Open NFAR is pleased to announce that our Community Project Grant application is now open and the schedule is as follows: Proposals are sought to create or expand programs that increase current level of autism services and support for autistic individuals in the San Diego region. Requests can include out-reach to underserved populations.
Funding will be distributed based on the following criteria: Impact; Reach; Immediacy; and Relevance . Grant Applications are due by Wednesday, March 18 . Grant Awards are announced in June 2026 by email.
Awards range between $2,000 and $10,000. Grant checks are made out to the Organization, School District or Business . Proposed project should be a 3-12 month effort.
Funds are to be used in the greater San Diego region. Open to institutions doing research or running programs directly. Funds are to be used for autism programs/research applicable to autism and ASD.
Funds not to be used for general operating/OH costs. Length of proposal should be from three to no more than 10 pages long (not including CVs). To date, NFAR has supported over 132 Community Project initiatives, increasing the learning, social, training and employment opportunities for neurodiverse individuals in San Diego.
