Since 2002, by working together in this very modest way, Modest Needs' donors have stopped more than 12,700 working individuals and families from entering the vicious cycle of poverty and a lifetime of dependence on the public welfare system for their survival. ##### Target demographics: Hard-working, low-income families and individuals across the United States and Canada.
Small, struggling non-profit organizations across the United States. ##### Direct beneficiaries per year: Last year, we were able to make grants to just over 1,600 families. ##### Geographic areas served: our self-sufficiency and homecoming heroes grants.
### 291 Stories from Volunteers, Donors & Supporters Most wonderful charity that helps those in need! Very looking forward to their further events! #### Share experience with this nonprofit today I applied for a grant and received an approval that my bills would be paid -- then no responses, no one answered phone or my voicemails.
I googled and found this article. Check it out!! DON'T APPLY!!
CRIMINALS ARE TAKING THE DONOR MONEY!!!!!! SO SAD AND DISAPPOINTED!!! in July 2024 applied with modest needs because I was very desperate for assistance.
I don’t usually apply for things like that and additionally sharing pictures and sharing my testimony. I’m a very private person so it was kind of na push but I did it anyways thinking that would be so great to have some help.
I followed their steps submitted all my personal documents, including tax return form, etc., they replied to saying that I did qualify and please submit a picture of me with the testimony about why I’m struggling so that donors can fund me after submitting this information my surprise, I saw that the donors actually funded us the full amount that we needed to cover what was missing modest needs reached out to me for the second time telling me to please send in my testimony to thank my donors and then they would help me by sending the money directly to my bills that were behind I have called them multiple times after this and sent multiple emails never received the funds that the donor supposedly sent to my family.
Grateful that they considered me, but this is not a legit foundation. They kept the money I never received it they get my testimony and posting it on the site . as if they really help me, but they did not.
I just wanted to put it out there because they shouldn’t lie to people and use their pictures and use their words to say that they help somebody when they really didn’t. General Member of the Public 10/25/2023 Selling false dreams, They just like the department of social services, will ask you for all these documents, make you wait for days just to say they can't help you!
General Member of the Public 10/06/2023 Modest needs gave me a bad experience! First off they took about 5/6 days to even look at my application meanwhile kept sending me emails about not being able to review my application just to turn around and deny me because my kids were listed on my Lease and said they think I was applying someone else so now I can't get any help from them.
Like I applied because I need help and on the verge of getting evicted yet they got my hopes high for nothing. I would NEVER recommend this stupid site. I am from Pakistan.
I want financial help . i faced financial issue My house was submerged in water۔ I am absolutely hopeless my father has been passed away . i have not any job ۔I didn't even have money to eat bread but i have a skills related to computer i want to buy one computer do some work from home so please help me They charge donors a fee to donate so they can profit and they never send you a check.
The staff is extremely rude and passive. They need to be shut down. Will be reporting them to the IRS I needed help getting caught up on my rent.
I applied with Modest Needs, they really came through for me. Applied October 27 2021 and was funded a month later. My landlord received the check two weeks later.
I'm very grateful for Modest Needs. I will be a Donor from this point on. Thank you to all the donors who helped me 3 months ago I applied for help with my rent from Modest Need.
org , then on March 10 they said the request had been funded on the 24th they update my request as paid and the check would be sent directly to my landlord the check never came. I've been emailing them for a Month with no response and there phone wont let you leave a message due New York Covid 19 -rules the phone says if you email them they will respond in a day or 2.
It's not fair that people donate and then Modest Needs doesn't send the money I will continue to try and contact them It should not take that long to respond to an email General Member of the Public 02/08/2021 This organization is a Joke. Anne had me send over all my documentation to tell me they couldn’t help with rent. I’m a single mother & I desperately needed help with rent.
A review of their financials shocks me. Only 61% of their 2018 receipts were distributed to their clients, and the percent distributed dropped to 54% in 2019. The salary of their founder is a bit over 10% of their total receipts.
They received a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator several years ago, and that rating was dropped (yet they still included that rating on an email that I send soliciting donations last year). I used to donate to them, but they are way too inefficient of an operation for me to support them at this point.
General Member of the Public 08/14/2020 This foundation has turned me down time and time again, my first application came after my tax return was delayed due to covid because it was a paper return, I fell behind because my childs father was unexpectedly out of the picture and I was left with bills that were normally paid on two incomes.
I had to pay for internet service to be able to keep my job and work from home when not allowed in office, that which had been terminated for nonpayment so I had an past due balance. I was denied help because I work full time. My recent application was denied because I have not lost my income, but when asked if I was an essential worked I answered yes.
I explained in my application that my expenses have increased being home with two small children, the electricity bill went sky high and I needed help catching up and I was still denied. This foundation only helps who they want. Very disappointing.
Modest Needs inspires me to give what I can. They don't demand I give buckets of money every time I open my mail (or email), and they don't guilt me into contributions. This charity was founded on the idea that people with a little spare cash can help others who normally can handle their expenses, then are hit by unexpected and uncontrollable expenses.
I appreciate that Modest Needs does due diligence to make sure that my few extra dollars which I can contribute don't end up in the pocket of some grifter. The real people whose applications appear on the Modest Needs web site have real, urgent needs which the staff at Modest Needs have verified are legit.
I've read quite a bit about how crowdfunding sites are prone to abuse by grifters, and I like knowing that my little donations are actually helping someone who really needed the help. I don't have a lot of spare change (often none at all), but the little I can donate can be put to use helping people like me who've had a bit of bad luck.
I really appreciate that Modest Needs is run very efficiently, so that most of the tens of dollars I can afford to donate actually go toward helping people rather than being spent on administrative expenses or perks for staff. * %2C%20and%20they%20don%27t%20guilt%20me%20into%20contributions. %20%20This%20charity%20was%20founded%20on%20the%20idea%20that%20people%20with%20a%20little%20spare%20cash%20ca...

Many live paycheck to paycheck and don't make enough to have an emergency fund or they don't qualify for assistance because they are just above the poverty line. With a little help these families can stay independent and self sufficient. I give Modest Needs FIVE STARS for their work and truth be told we need more organizations like them.
General Member of the Public 05/01/2020 This Modest Needs is a designated 501(c)(3) (tax-exempt) organization but, I am disappointed, this organization is supposed to help in case of emergency and they are charging me $ 1,950 before giving me $ 1,500 aid for my temporary emergency. I was asking for the help of 10,000. I did not ask to get into more debts.
I have almost two months waiting for help, and they never answer the phone. I will report them to BBB and to that state's attorney general. * (3)%20(tax-exempt)%20organization%C2%A0but%2C%20I%20am%20disappointed%2C%20this%20organization%20is%20supposed%20to%20help%20in%20case%20of%20emergency%20and%20they%20are%20charging%20me%20%24%201%2C950%20before%20giving%20me%20%24%201%2C500%20aid%20for%20my%20temporary%20emergency.

I retired in March 2019 and my new income was now a small pension. I USED MY BANK STATEMENT FOR OCTOBER 2019. THE TWO DEPOSITS WERE FOR 953 AND 1047.
00. I only asked for 800. 00 because my Dad passed away and his estate was going to be auctioned off.
I paid to prevent this from happening. As a result I have fallen just a bit behind. Horrible, kept reading for documentation everything in on Friday and received email stating I didn’t qualify because they didn’t have my paperwork.
That’s such a scam!!! Don’t bother!!! General Member of the Public 08/12/2019 A great nonprofit foundation helping anyone with various needs to gain back what they lost but now is found!
