Nuffield Farming Scholarships is a grant from the Nuffield Farming Scholarships Trust that funds a prestigious leadership and study program for agriculture and rural industry professionals passionate about advancing their sector. Scholars undertake an independent global travel study program to examine a chosen agricultural topic, returning with fresh perspectives and a network of international industry leaders.

The scholarship is valued at more than £24,000 per recipient. Eligible applicants must be between 22 and 45 years of age, well-established in a relevant career, demonstrate passion for their industry, and be at least three years post-tertiary education.

The scholarship provides an opportunity to participate in an international agricultural leadership program. You become a member of Nuffield USA to promote agriculture and agriculturally related issues. You become a member of a worldwide network of more than 1,800 Nuffield Scholars, who have enjoyed the unique Nuffield experience.

Nuffield Scholars are often highly sought speakers for agricultural and community groups at home and abroad. They are looked to as leaders in the field, and translators for what is happening elsewhere in the world. An individual who makes a living from agriculture, either as a primary producer or working in the industry. Typically between 25 and 45 years of age, but exceptional candidates outside that age range will be considered. Seeking to develop capacity and experience through travel and exploration.

A Citizen of the United States of America, a Naturalized Citizen of the United States of America, or Permanent Resident of the United States of America. Preference is given to applicants that are Citizens. What are the components of the Nuffield Scholarship? Nuffield USA offers a $25,000 scholarship for individuals looking to expand their knowledge and leadership in agriculture through global research and travel. Scholars participate in a year-long journey that includes: Contemporary Scholars Conference (CSC) : The CSC kicks off the Nuffield Scholarship program.

It is held in a different Nuffield Country each year. All new Nuffield Scholars from around the world attend. The CSC is normally held in early March over a seven to ten day period.

Its purpose is to develop in all the New Scholars the leadership qualities, skills and understanding to make best use of their scholarship. Global Focus Program (GFP) : The GFP, a four-week group travel experience to 4 or 5 countries, can be considered the core of the Nuffield experience. Typically, eight to ten scholars travel together during the GFP.

Participants in the GFP interact with growers, policymakers, food industry and agribusiness personnel, and have time for enriching cultural experiences in the host countries. Scholars benefit from exposure to a broad range of agricultural systems, in very different political and social environments, while travelling in a close group of individuals of varying backgrounds during an intense program.

Different programs are available to choose from, typically either directly after the March CSC or early summer each year. Independent Study Project (ISP) : The CSC and the GFP set the stage for each scholar’s Independent Study Project (ISP). The ISP marks the conclusion of the Nuffield Scholarship experience.

In the ISP, Scholars spend 4 to 5 weeks of self-directed travel anywhere in the world exploring their specific research topic. Upon completion of their independent study, scholars will complete a written 10,000 word report detailing their learnings. When accepted, this will be posted online at the link below.
