Learn more about the grant Learn about this year's Application Process Hear from past participants The OER grant will fund projects to migrate existing course materials for classes at the University of Nevada, Reno to open educational resources (OER).
The grant is open to all academic faculty.
The amount of funding will range based on the average student enrollment per semester across all sections of a course that will adopt an OER: $1,500 for a course with less than 100 affected students per semester $2,500 for a course with between 100 to 300 affected students per semester $3,500 for a course with more than 300 affected students per semester If instructors anticipate they will need to make substantial adaptations to available OER for their course, they can request an additional $1,000 as part of the application; they will need to explain in the application the need for an adaptation and plans for what they will do.
Open educational resources are any material used in the classroom to help students learn that have been made freely available online and licensed for others to reuse and adapt them, often with a Creative Commons License. Examples include textbooks from the OpenStax program . What do you consider adaptation of OER materials? Adaptation involves identifying existing OER and modifying it to reflect local needs, updated information, or creating ancillary materials to pair with an existing OER that will enhance the learning experience. What is the timeline of the program?
Applications will be accepted until February 27, 2026. Applicants will be notified by mid-March 2026. You can use a new tool, Sylla , which allows you to quickly and easily find OER for specific courses and/or textbooks.
