Transformative Basic Science | Open Philanthropy Transformative Basic Science Breakthrough life sciences research can enable the exploration of whole new areas. We aim to support research that achieves important, broadly applicable insights about biological processes. Many of the most impactful discoveries in the history of science have been novel, pathbreaking findings that enabled subsequent exploration of whole new areas.

We aim to fund basic science that could end up playing that enabling role when we see it as neglected by other potential funders. We are open to receiving unsolicited short pre-proposals at science@openphilanthropy. org .

We try to consider all proposals but are unable to respond in most cases.
