Outdoor Patches | N. C. Youth Outdoor Engagement Commission Submit A Photo to Earn A Patch NC youth aged 18 and under can earn a free patch for completing outdoor activities and demonstrating their skills.
Simply submit a photo of your harvest or of you completing an outdoor activity to qualify. Adults and out-of-state residents can participate too, for a $5 donation (per patch) to the NC Youth Outdoor Engagement Fund. Patches earned statewide in 2025!

You can submit your photos and earn your patches in person at participating locations. For those experiencing outdoor activities for the first time, the My First Fish and My First Hunt patches can be earned by submitting a photo of any fishing or hunting activity and/or harvest. These patches change every year and can be earned multiple times.
Activities include bird watching, camping, hiking, horseback riding, paddle sports, hunting, and fishing. To qualify for fishing and hunting patches, you must submit a photo of your harvest. For all other patches, you must submit a photo of you doing the activity.
These patches are awarded to those that have demonstrated their adept outdoors skills through high level fish and hunt harvests. Earned just once, these patches are for those that want to demonstrate their advanced knowledge and skills. Activities include archery, fishing, shooting sports, and swimming.
