Private School Security Assessment Grant Program # Assistant Special Agent in Charge Jason Knowles Private School Security Assessment Grant Program Total grant award is $5,000,000 and is open until June 30, 2025 Provides grants to sheriff’s offices and other law enforcement agencies for specified activities aimed at improving the safety and security of Florida’s private schools.
Requires the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) to develop a site security assessment form for use by the law enforcement agencies when conducting assessments.
Overview The grant is authorized to provide reimbursement for agency personnel costs related to the following activities: • A physical site security assessment; • The development of active assailant response protocols; • The development or implementation of training related to active assailant response; • Active assailant response drills for students and school personnel; and • Consultation or guidance provided to private schools to implement a threat management program similar to the one required by public schools.
Overview The grant is also authorized to provide reimbursement to law enforcement agencies for other items necessary in identifying a comprehensive private school safety program. • Eligible items include, but are not limited to tablets, laptops, digital cameras, etc. Funds expended for the implementation of assessment recommendations are not eligible for reimbursement under this grant.
Solicitation Process FDLE is currently engaged in a procurement process to acquire an assessment tool that will be made available to grant recipients in order to provide physical site security assessments for private schools. Grant solicitation is anticipated to be released on September 1, 2024.
FDLE will work with the Florida Sheriff’s Association and the Florida Police Chief’s Association to ensure all law enforcement agencies are aware of the grant opportunity and how to apply. After a law enforcement agency has executed a contract with FDLE’s Office of Criminal Justice Grants, access will be provided to the assessment tool. Additional details on the reimbursement process will be provided in the solicitation.
Statewide Critical Infrastructure Repository Private school assessments will be stored within a repository accessible by the private school and can be updated as necessary.
