$50,000 of this tax fund is dedicated to the Sustainable Local Food and Agriculture grants. This funding opportunity aims to provide private and nonprofit organizations in Boulder County the means to undertake sustainability priorities that benefit Boulder County’s food system. This program has changed from previous iterations of the Sustainable Food and Agriculture Fund, so please be sure to read the updated eligibility requirements.
Soil health projects are no longer eligible under the Sustainable Food and Agriculture Fund. If you are looking for soil health funding, please visit the Boulder County Soil Health Initiative. The 2026 Sustainable Food and Ag. Fund is open to projects that fall under one or more of the following categories: Farmer/producer education, conferences, and workshops that focus on sustainable and regenerative agriculture demonstrations; Farmer’s market infrastructure; Sustainable local food and crop processing; and/or Programmatic and resource support for frontline farm workers and organizations.
Any registered business, official non-profit organization, or government entity can apply for funding. Grants can range from $10,000 to $25,000. More details about eligibility and qualified projects are included in the “How to Apply” section below.

gov. Frequently Asked Questions Can you be reimbursed for items already purchased? Are existing staff salaries eligible for funding? Funding cannot be used to pay staff to complete work that was already in existence.
However, if the project requires new or additional labor for existing staff, some funding may be used for their salary. Funding may also be used if the grant project requires contracted labor. Can funds be used on private or public lands?
No. This funding is prioritized for private lands. Are my chances hurt if I apply for the Sustainable Food and Ag Fund and the Healthy Soils Initiative? No, but note, they each have very different project requirements.
If I received an award last year, can I apply to the fund again? You must wait two years to apply to the fund again. Can you be reimbursed for items already purchased?
If I have already received an award from this fund are my chance hurt to be awarded again? Does the screening committee have quotas to allocate equal amounts of funding to each Broad Local Food and Ag Category? Is there an advantage to applying to certain categories?
If I miss the deadline of submission, is my project ineligible? Your project is ineligible if you miss the submission deadline. We will not accept any additional documentation or applications past the deadline.
Can I submit multiple applications? Please only submit one application to the Sustainable Food and Agriculture Fund. How do you define a start-up?
Businesses in operation for less than one year. Start-ups are not eligible for the Sustainable Food and Agriculture Fund. What is an example of USDA historically underserved?
