They believe that the change in values needed to establish a more just and peaceful world can come about only if it is strongly rooted in local communities that value the importance of building movements to create systemic social change. These are communities that view everyone, especially young people, as a vital force in the transformation of society.
They recognize young people’s ability to reshape our society, not only politically, but also spiritually and culturally. The Peace Development Fund is committed to supporting organizations and projects that recognize that peace will never be sustained unless it is based on justice.
They understand peace to be a consequence of equitable relationships—with our fellow human beings and with the natural environment of which we are a part and on which we depend. Eligibility is limited to organizations with budgets smaller than $250,000 and directly engaged in community organizing. They do not fund programs with a primary geographic focus outside of the United States, U.S. Territories, Mexico and Haiti.

The SCI Youth Grant Pitch Contest is a competitive program from Social Capital Inc. that funds youth-led community improvement projects in Greater Boston. Improving Veteran Mental Health Grant Program is a grant from The Cigna Group Foundation that funds nonprofits providing housing stability and wraparound support services to improve the mental health of military veterans. The Foundation committed $9 million over three years addressing housing instability and its mental health impacts, as an estimated 40,000 veterans go without shelter nightly and 1.5 million are at risk of homelessness. Funded programs include mortgage and rental assistance, employment re-entry training, and housing development for veterans. Eligible nonprofits must leverage evidence-informed programs and align with at least one goal: increasing permanent housing, improving housing affordability, or enhancing wraparound services for veterans transitioning from shelters.
