2. Review Program Guidelines Eligibility guidelines vary by program, so it is important to review program-specific guidelines to understand your organization’s eligibility. Currently, Local Community Grants is the only program that accepts applications throughout the year in the form of an open application .
For the remainder of our focus areas, grant applications are accepted by invitation only. Unsolicited proposals will not be accepted, and invitations are not granted upon request. Occasionally, open requests for proposals (RFPs) will be posted for programs that are otherwise invitation only.
While each program has unique guidelines, the following criteria are standard across all our giving programs: Generally, within the United States, funding is limited to organizations recognized as public charities and currently listed in the IRS Current State Master File and public charity equivalents, such as units of governments, faith-based organizations serving the community and schools.
If an international organization is not a U.S. 501(c)(3) publicly supported charity, the team must demonstrate that the non-U.S. grantee is the “equivalent” of a U.S. public charity (“equivalency determination”) or exercise “expenditure responsibility” (ER). Learn more in our Global Giving FAQs . Organizations may apply to multiple programs at once if they meet the eligibility criteria of each program.
Neither Walmart nor the Walmart Foundation award grants to individuals. Only financial grants can be requested from our online applications. Requests for in-kind donations (products or gift cards) should be made to store management at your local Walmart or Sam’s Club facility.
