Art Meets Activism Grants - Kentucky Foundation For Women Art Meets Activism Grants Mini Grants for KFW Grantees Kentucky Feminine Artists Timeline Art Meets Activism Grants Art Meets Activism Grants What is the KFW Art Meets Activism Grant? The Art Meets Activism (AMA) grant supports feminist artists and organizations to lead community members in participatory art making that directly advances positive social change.
At KFW, we believe that active engagement in creativity and the arts, not passive observance, is what facilitates mind and body changes and creates lasting social change impact. Applicants must Kentucky-based artists and organizations that demonstrate their commitment to feminism, their ability to lead community members in art making, and have a concrete plan for positive social change through arts-based activities.
All KFW’s grants are arts-based, feminist in nature and for Kentucky residents. The ACD mini-grant is only for previous KFW grantees in the AMA and AE grant programs. There have been some changes regarding how grant funds may be used.
Consult the eligibility checklist for up-to-date information on what KFW can and cannot fund. One-time events that were funded in the past are no longer eligible for funding beginning in 2024. For one-time events, look at our Sponsorships to see if your event is a good fit.
The following are the grant criteria reviewers use to evaluate Art Meets Activism (AMA) applications: The application and art sample: show high artistic quality and a clear ability to lead others in participatory art making offer a concrete plan aligned with KFW’s mission to promote positive social change by supporting varied feminist expression in the arts.
directly benefit women, girls, trans, and gender nonconforming people in Kentucky are clearly outlined and can be completed during the grant year demonstrate a way to measure and evaluate impact. The submitted budget shows the applicant’s ability to manage grant funds. Peer Panel Review: KFW grant recommendations are made by a panel of independent peer reviewers.
Recommendations are sent to the KFW Board of Directors for final approval. KFW staff do not make funding decisions. What to Expect When Applying The Art Meets Activism Grant application will ask applicants to clearly describe the participatory artmaking activities proposed, including a timeline and work plan.
The applicant will also discuss their understanding and practice of feminism, and the social change impact of their work. Additional requirements include budget, art samples, and other essential grant components. Click here to view examples of past AMA grantee projects.
Grant Deadlines and Timeframe Application Deadline: Typically, the last Monday in February. Decision notifications: Typically occur in June. Grant Timeline: AMA grant activities must take place between July 1 and June 30 of the following year.
Final Report: Due 30 days after the grant year ends.

Artist Enrichment (AE) Grant is a program from the Kentucky Foundation for Women that funds feminist artists and arts organizations in Kentucky to further their artistic development and create work for positive social change. Eligible activities include artist residencies, exploration of new mediums or techniques, and building a body of work. Reviewers assess artistic quality, commitment to feminism, and a concrete plan for measuring impact. Awards range from $1,000 to $7,500. Eligibility is open to Kentucky-based individual women and gender non-conforming artists at any career stage. The application deadline is August 31, 2026. Note that one-time events are no longer eligible beginning in 2024.
Artist Career Development (ACD) Mini-Grant is a rapid-turnaround grant from the Kentucky Foundation for Women that funds career advancement opportunities for Kentucky feminist artists. The grant supports activities that further an artist's career, broaden the audience or impact of their work, and strengthen artist networks. Three grant types are available: opportunities, emergency relief, and artist gatherings. Awards of up to $500 are available. Eligible applicants must be current or previous recipients of KFW's Artist Enrichment or Art Meets Activism grants and must be Kentucky residents at the time of application and during grant activities. Grantees may receive one ACD grant per calendar year.
Jerome Early-Career Project Grants is a grant from Forecast Public Art, funded by the Jerome Foundation, that funds the creation of new public art projects by early-career artists based in Minnesota. Two grants of $8,000 each are awarded annually to support temporary or permanent public artworks anywhere in Minnesota. Projects may be supported by public or nonprofit agencies but private commissions are not eligible, and a secured project site is required at the time of application. The program places special emphasis on supporting BIPOC and Native artists, LGBTQIA+ artists, women artists, immigrant artists, rural artists, and artists with disabilities. Eligible applicants are Minnesota-based individual artists with 2–10 years of generative experience. The application deadline was October 15, 2025.
The Local Cultural Council Program is a grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council distributing $1,000 to $10,000 through a statewide network of 329 Local Cultural Councils (LCCs) representing every city and town in the Commonwealth. Each LCC awards funds based on local community cultural needs as assessed by council members. Eligible applicants include artists, nonprofits, schools, and organizations pursuing arts, humanities, and science projects. Applications are submitted directly to local councils and are typically due by October 16. Grants from most LCCs are reimbursement-based. Massachusetts Cultural Council funds the LCCs centrally, which then regrant to community projects.
