Digital Europe Programme I Digital Skills and Jobs Platform Digital Skills and Jobs Platform NEW! Amendment of the DIGITAL Europe Programme and work programme 2025-2027 On 19 March 2026, the European Commission published a new amendment to the DIGITAL Europe Programme and its 2025-2027 work programme .
This amendment introduces a number of new actions, such as digital infrastructure for schools and an online safety application to support the EU Action plan against cyberbullying . The amendment also ensures the programme continues to deliver for Europe’s evolving digital needs.
It includes a new call for Safer Internet Centres aiming to ensure wide geographical coverage across the EU and Associated countries and a new work strand for the action on multi-country European Digital Infrastructure Consortia to strengthen their collaboration.
Other changes aim to ensure the implementation of Testing and Experimentation Facilities for AI as well as for the deployment of the European Electronic Health Record Exchange Format and digital health services. There is also an amendment concerning the previous topic on Situational Awareness and Operational Centre (SAOC), to align with the European Democracy Shield .
The new amendment follows the first DIGITAL amendment, adopted in October 2025 , which reinforced the Commission’s ambitions for developing and deploying critical technologies in Europe. The European Commission has revealed a new work programme for 2025–2027 with a historic EUR 1. 3 billion investment in digital skills, AI, and cybersecurity .
This phase accelerates the transition of key projects—from preparatory stages to full-scale deployment—and reinforces Europe's digital transformation and tech sovereignty. Accelerate AI deployment : Boost access to generative AI across sectors like healthcare and manufacturing, enhance testing environments (e.g., virtual worlds), and launch the AI Factories initiative.
Enhance cyber resilience : Establish the EU Cybersecurity Reserve and support critical infrastructure protection via measures such as the Cyber Resilience Act’s reporting system. Expand digital skills & innovation : Strengthen the European Digital Innovation Hubs, introduce new academies in emerging fields (e.g., quantum, generative AI, semiconductors), and advance initiatives like Destination Earth.
Modernize digital infrastructure : Develop EU education and training capacity, implement the new EU Digital Identity Wallet architecture, and promote the Strategic Technologies for Europe Platform (STEP) with its STEP Seal quality label.
DIGITAL Europe Programme 10th Call for Advanced Digital Skills On 1 April 2026, the European Commission and HaDEA, the Commission’s Health and Digital Executive Agency, announced the 10th set of open calls under the Digital Europe Programme . €12. 5 million will go towards projects aiming to boost the deployment and uptake of key and innovative digital technologies throughout EU Member States.
The calls in this set open on 21 April 2026, with a deadline on 01 October 2026 at 17:00h CET.
Three calls explicitly focus on fostering the development of advanced digital skills: Advanced Digital Skills for AI Uptake in Health (DIGITAL-2026-SKILLS-10-DIGITAL-HEALTH-STEP) Digital Skills and Jobs Platform: The National Coalitions for Digital Skills and Jobs (DIGITAL-2026-SKILLS-10-NATIONAL-COALITIONS) EdTech Accelerator (DIGITAL-2026-SKILLS-10-EDTECH) On 29 April 2026, the Digital Skills and Jobs Platform, on behalf of the European Commission, hosted an online Info Day dedicated to the three calls, the recording will be available soon.

The COVID-19 pandemic further highlighted the existing shortage of digital experts in Europe The Digital Europe Programme provides strategic funding to answer these challenges and supports the development of a skilled talent pool of digital experts.
With a total budget of €580 million for digital skills over 7 years, the Digital Europe Programme enhances cooperation between EU Member States and stakeholders in digital skills and jobs through: Specialised education programmes in key digital areas such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), blockchain, robotics, quantum and High Performance Computing (HPC), provided by networks of higher education institutions, research centres and businesses (€120 million contribution over the first two years of the programme).
Short-term training courses , tailored to the needs of businesses, with an emphasis on SMEs in Europe, as well as jobseekers and citizens looking to reskill (€25 million contribution over the first two years of the programme).
These actions have 3 common goals: Increasing capacity and excellence of EU education and training institutions Encouraging cooperation between higher education, research and businesses Sparking interest of Europeans in digital careers and attract the best talents. All the funded projects will be showcased on the Digital Skills and Jobs Platform.
Examples of previous funding Digital Europe Programme does not address these challenges and goals alone, but builds upon successful past EU-funded initiatives, in particular from the Connecting Europe Facility – CEF Digital . With the support of CEF funding, consortia composed of university networks, SMEs and top AI researcher centres designed four new high-quality specialised Master programmes and courses in AI .
The aim of these new high-quality training programmes is to bring AI advanced digital skills closer to non-technical people and other professionals. NVIDIA Graduate Fellowship Program is a grant from NVIDIA providing up to $60,000 per award to PhD students conducting research that advances accelerated computing and its applications. CalSEED Concept Award is a grant from the California Energy Commission that provides $150,000 in funding to early-stage clean energy innovators in California. The program targets individuals, businesses, and nonprofits developing hardware, software, or integrated solutions at Technology Readiness Levels 2-4. Eligible technology areas rotate each cycle and have included battery recycling and reuse, long-duration energy storage, medium- and heavy-duty vehicle electrification, industrial electrification, and advanced EV charging. Applicants must be located in California, have under $1 million in private funding, and propose innovations that benefit California ratepayers. Concept Award winners also receive professional development resources and access to accelerator programs, and may compete for a subsequent $450,000 Prototype Award.
NASA STRIDE (Science Transport and Robotic Innovation for Deployment and Exploration) is a grant program from NASA that solicits proposals from U.S. industry to conduct design studies of advanced robotic surface and aerial mobility systems with payload transportation and deployment capability for Mars surface operations. The program supports innovation in robotic mobility systems that could enable future Mars science missions. U.S.-based universities and nonprofit research organizations may also be eligible per the grant record. The application deadline for this cycle was March 31, 2026.
