Domestic Violence Housing First Grant Program | Minnesota Department of Public Safety Office of Justice Programs Support Services For Crime Victims Domestic Violence Housing First Grant Program Description of the program Domestic violence is a leading cause of housing instability and homelessness. Many survivors of domestic and sexual violence face significant barriers to accessing safe, affordable housing.
There is a strong correlation between homelessness and surviving violence. This program funds community-based nonprofit or Tribal Nation-based domestic violence programs for pilot projects to implement an agency-wide Domestic Violence Housing First approach to assist survivors of domestic and/or sexual violence experiencing housing instability.
“The Domestic Violence Housing First approach focuses on getting survivors of domestic violence into stable housing as quickly as possible and then providing the necessary support as they rebuild their lives. This approach has been shown to promote long-term stability, safety and well-being for survivors and their children.
” ( Washington State Coalition Against Domestic Violence ) Eligible applicants are community-based non-profit organizations and Tribal Nation domestic violence service providers currently providing domestic violence services to survivors. Nonprofit applicants must be registered with the Minnesota Secretary of State.

The SCI Youth Grant Pitch Contest is a competitive program from Social Capital Inc. that funds youth-led community improvement projects in Greater Boston. Improving Veteran Mental Health Grant Program is a grant from The Cigna Group Foundation that funds nonprofits providing housing stability and wraparound support services to improve the mental health of military veterans. The Foundation committed $9 million over three years addressing housing instability and its mental health impacts, as an estimated 40,000 veterans go without shelter nightly and 1.5 million are at risk of homelessness. Funded programs include mortgage and rental assistance, employment re-entry training, and housing development for veterans. Eligible nonprofits must leverage evidence-informed programs and align with at least one goal: increasing permanent housing, improving housing affordability, or enhancing wraparound services for veterans transitioning from shelters.
