Environmental Justice | Windward Fund At Windward, we believe that everyone deserves a safe and clean environment regardless of their race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, or gender. Many of our projects are working to mitigate the systemic inequities that have disproportionately impacted marginalized communities—particularly communities of color.
Projects are investing capital and creating policies and initiatives in these communities to ensure climate change solutions are equitable, sustainable, and beneficial to all. Environmental Justice Projects Hive Fund raises funds and makes grants to groups working to accelerate the transition from dirty to clean energy in ways that center justice, redistribute power, and create healthier, safer, and more prosperous communities.
Its grantmaking is focused in the US South—a region whose high pollution levels, abundant clean energy opportunities, and legacy of environmental justice leadership make it critical for global climate progress.
Hive Fund’s grant dollars go to organizations led by impactful leaders—nearly three quarters of them Black, Brown, Indigenous, and Asian American and Pacific Islander women and gender-nonconforming people—that have historically been overlooked and undervalued by philanthropy.
