NRC IRAP support for SMEs innovating with artificial intelligence - National Research Council Canada NRC IRAP support for SMEs innovating with artificial intelligence As more and more Canadian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are working to harness the power of artificial intelligence (AI) to generate growth, the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC IRAP) is committed to providing support to increase the quality and competitiveness of Canadian AI technologies.
One of these initiatives is NRC IRAP's AI Assist program , which is designed to help innovative SMEs navigate the challenges of developing and adapting generative AI (GenAI) and deep learning (DL) solutions and to assist SMEs with awareness, planning and execution in order to develop these technologies safely and ethically.
AI Assist supports Canadian SMEs in undertaking scientific research, product development, testing and validation of AI technologies, allowing them to incorporate GenAI and DL technologies into their core products and services.
As part of the AI Assist program, NRC IRAP's network of industrial technology advisors across Canada are enabling SMEs to develop and access the right knowledge, computing resources and AI tools needed to carry out research in AI and apply it to their core business. The NRC is committed to helping Canada and stakeholders during this time of need. We are prioritizing our pandemic response, mandated by the Prime Minister, to address urgent COVID-19 challenges and support Canadian businesses who are developing solutions. In an effort to limit the spread of the virus, 90 percent of NRC staff have transitioned to teleworking. Employees who remain onsite are working on COVID-related programs, and performing critical tasks such as ensuring our buildings are secure, monitoring equipment and facilities, keeping systems running safely, and receiving essential shipments at loading docks on reduced hours.
The NRC remains committed to all of our clients and collaborators, therefore we will continue to carefully consider which facilities need to remain open and which projects are critical to support Canada and Canadians during this difficult time.
