Life Sciences is a suite of funding programs and resources from the PA Department of Community and Economic Development supporting Pennsylvania's $50 billion life sciences sector. The Commonwealth operates the Pennsylvania Life Sciences Greenhouse Initiative (LSG) across three regional organizations that provide early-stage funding and business expertise to life sciences companies.
Ben Franklin Technology Partners (BFTP) offers funding and technical expertise to early-stage technology firms and manufacturers. Additional resources include the Penn Center for Innovation for technology transfer and licensing, the University City Science Center for healthcare and tech startup commercialization, and access to state grants for manufacturing expansion and workforce training.
Pennsylvania ranks fourth in the nation for academic R&D expenditures. Eligible applicants include early-stage life sciences companies, biotech startups, medical device manufacturers, and research institutions operating in Pennsylvania.

The Commonwealth is investing $21 million in the Lancaster County project, which will create 200 new, high-paying jobs. B. Braun investing $20 millon to expand medical device manufacturing in Pennsylvania Global-medtech leader B.
Braun—whose US headquarters is located in Bethlehem, PA— isinvesting $20 million to expand and modernize its 710,000-square-foot medical-device facility in the Lehigh Valley, securing at least 200 new full-time job s over the next three years. Pennsylvania is supporting the company's growth with $1. 5 million in grants, including funding for workforce training.

BFTP provides both early-stage, technology-based firms and established manufacturers with funding, business and technical expertise, and access to a network of innovative, expert resources. Penn Center for Innovation University of Pennsylvania’s Penn Center for Innovation facilitates technology transfer from university research to the private sector through licensing, R&D alliances, and other commercial partnering opportunities.

HERL’s work improves the mobility and function of people with disabilities through advanced engineering in clinical research and medical rehabilitation.
