Multiple NIH R01 Award Program - Office of Research Entrepreneurship and Commercialization Funding And Grant Writing Multiple NIH R01 Award Program Multiple NIH R01 Award Program (R01 - 2 ) Applications accepted on a rolling basis, beginning November 1, 2024. The goal of this program is to increase the number of Purdue faculty holding multiple simultaneous R01 grants.
Therefore, the Office of Research has launched the Multiple NIH R01 Award Program (R01 2 ) to provide pilot support to current NIH R01 PI/MPI who want to submit a second or third R01 grant as PI/MPI. Applicants must hold an active NIH R01 as PI/MPI and cannot be in the last year or no-cost extension year of the active grant. Pilot funding is available for a new R01 and not an extension of the existing R01.
Individuals are encouraged to work with Perry Kirkham ( pkirkham@purdue. edu ) if they have questions about eligibility. Requests are limited to direct costs of $60,000.
Application and Submission Process Applicants should submit their proposals through the InfoReady application portal here: https://purdue. infoready4. com/#competitionDetail/1951967 .
Applicants do not need to go through Sponsored Programs Pre-Award Services for the submission process. Applications must use Arial 11 point font with 0. 5 inch margins, single line spacing and must follow the supplied Multiple NIH R01 (R01 2) template .
Applications should contain the following components: Abstract (30-line limit) and target submission date Specific Aims (one-page limit): These are the aims for the proposed R01 grant submission.
Narrative (two-page limit; including the following): Briefly describe how the proposed grant is a new project and not an extension of the existing R01; Briefly describe the proposed experiments; Discuss the importance of the proposed research; and ** Discuss rigor and feasibility. ** Budget and budget justification: A ROM budget template is provided here.
Can include preliminary data Optional prior summary statement (if applicable) and a description of how the pilot funds will address a perceived need in resubmission. ** These factors will now be considered in the revised review framework proposed by the NIH for due dates on or after January 25, 2025. Incomplete applications and/or applications that do not meet these requirements will be returned without review.
Pilot funds can be used towards teaching release time, student support, and supplies and materials for the proposed R01 application. Large equipment purchases are not envisioned as part of this pilot program. However, specialized equipment under $10k that would bring significant new capabilities to a project may be considered if carefully justified.
Cost Sharing or Matched Funding Cost-sharing or matched funding is not allowed. Recipients must submit this R01 application to the NIH within 18 months following the award. Failure to do so may result in the recipient becoming ineligible to receive future funding from the Office of Research.
Clear and cogent presentation of proposed aims/experiments and how they support the overall R01 application will be weighted heavily in the review process. If the R01 is a resubmission, clear description of how the pilot funding will support a responsive resubmission will be review criteria.
