2026 Georgia High School Girls Flag Football Grant Application The Atlanta Falcons, in partnership with the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation, have worked tirelessly to elevate girls flag football to become a sanctioned sport across the United States to promote gender equality in sports offered at the high school level. In 2018, the Falcons launched a girls flag football pilot program in 19 high schools in Georgia's Gwinnett County.
Following the success of the program, Georgia became the fourth state to sanction girls flag football as an official high school sport in 2020. Given the enthusiasm and rapid growth of the game in Georgia, the Falcons used the same model to bring girls flag football to neighboring Alabama.
In 2021, Alabama launched a pilot program for high schools and three years later became the eighth state to sanction girls flag football as an official high school sport. In 2022, the Falcons expanded their efforts to Montana given Atlanta Falcons Owner and Chairman Arthur M. Blank's longstanding presence and love for The Treasure State, a place he considers his second home.
In its first three years, the girls flag football pilot program in Montana grew by more than 500%. This past year, more than 300 Georgia high schools offered girls flag football as an official sport for their student-athletes with the state championships taking place at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in December.
More than 130 high schools in Alabama featured girls flag football programs, and 28 schools offered girls flag football as a high school sport in Montana.
