Franciscan Health Receives Grant from Indiana Breast Cancer Awareness Trust (IBCAT) for Free Mammograms | Franciscan Health Foundation Franciscan Health Receives Grant from Indiana Breast Cancer Awareness Trust (IBCAT) for Free Mammograms INDIANAPOLIS – Franciscan Health offers free mammograms for those who qualify, thanks to a nearly $2,500 grant from the Indiana Breast Cancer Awareness Trust (IBCAT).
Franciscan Health’s central Indiana grant applies at the breast centers in Indianapolis and Mooresville, as well as the imaging centers in Greenwood (Greenbrooke) and Plainfield. Mammograms are available for those who qualify on a first-come, first-served basis until funds from the grant are used for the year.
Patients may qualify for a free mammogram if they are uninsured, live in Marion, Morgan, Boone, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Johnson or Shelby counties, are age 40 and older, or under 40 with a family history of breast cancer and are at or below 350% of the poverty level.
The breast cancer screening program at Franciscan Health in Central Indiana targets low-income women to provide equitable access to early detection and intervention services for breast cancer. The program aims to overcome financial, logistical, and informational obstacles that might otherwise prevent these women from receiving timely and appropriate screening.
Patients can pick up an application form at a Franciscan Health breast center in Indianapolis and Mooresville as well as imaging centers in Greenbrooke (Greenwood), and Plainfield. New this year, patients also have the option to fill out the form online. Click here to complete the form online.
The grant money is generated by the sale of Indiana’s Breast Cancer Awareness license plate. The Franciscan Health Foundation has received IBCAT funding for several years with funds distributed to the breast cancer screening program at Franciscan Health Indianapolis among other programs within the organization.
Since the Indiana Breast Cancer Awareness Trust special group recognition license plate was first made available in 2002, tens of thousands of Hoosier women have received screening, diagnostic and support services with more than $7. 5 million being awarded through competitive grants.
In addition, more than $160,000 in scholarships has been awarded to incoming and current college students who have lost a parent or who have a parent currently battling the disease. The mission of the Indiana Breast Cancer Awareness Trust, Inc. is to increase awareness and improve access to breast cancer screening, diagnosis and support services throughout Indiana.
Indiana residents may purchase an Indiana breast cancer awareness special group recognition license plate by visiting any BMV license branch or online at myBMV. com. Of the annual $40 fee, $25 is a direct tax-deductible donation (to the extent of the law).
